Welcome to Mafia 90
The Shoot Out at the Pretty Good Corral!
All deadlines are at 4 PM EDT (UTC-4).
The game begins today at that time.
Standard Rules & Addendums:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1317yTgrMyXoCIJBoNK6_-oR__qDXB-HyI2ragf83yiE/edit?pli=1#heading=h.1hfgd0icl9mb
Standard rules apply, with the following changes/modifications:
1) For the first Five Days, our days will be the standard 48 hours (and 24 hour nights). Beginning on Day Six, Days will be 24 hours (and 24 hour nights).
2) There are NO posting minimums/maximums.
3) No Kill is NOT an accepted vote at EoD. (It is accepted during the day, if you like that sort of thing.) Violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. (You’ll be modkilled.)
4) Because of the Lawmen’s compulsion to root out ALL lawlessness, a tie is not an acceptable EoD state.
5) The person whose vote CAUSES a tie at EoD will be riddled with bullets from angry citizens, who expect more decisiveness from their lawmen. (THIS sounds more complicated than it is. DayVotes simply may NOT be tied. IF a tie occurs, SOMEONE is going to die. If you were the voter whose movement CAUSES a tie to occur, you will be modkilled. The point is… DO NOT TIE.
We have 19 players in Shootout. Four of them are Mafia (or ‘bad guys.’)
The following are the descriptions of special roles/cases:
Town
Desperado: During the Day, you may shoot a player by DMing the GMs, and declaring your target. The GM will adjudicate your shot as soon as possible. If your target is town (PR or vanilla) you AND your target are removed from the game. If your target is scum, your gun reloads. You may shoot as many times as you wish, until you are removed due to hitting town. Your role activates on D1. There will be ONE Desperado. The GMs will likely misspell “Desperado” at least twice during the game.
Lawman: During the Day, you may shoot a player by DMing the GMs, and declaring your target. The GM will adjudicate your shot AT THE END OF THE DAY YOU SHOOT. All shots made by Lawmen during the Day will resolve simultaneously (along with any Gunmen’s shots) at the END of the Day. Your gun has ONE shot. Your role activates at the beginning of the day indicated in your Role PM.
Investigative Sherrif: During the Night, you may choose to investigate one player. You will find out whether that player is town or scum. Your investigation will be revealed to you if you survive the night.
BEFORE the random distribution of roles, the GMs determined whether the Sheriff is NORMAL or TRICKY. (50% each)
IF the sheriff is Normal, the Investigative Sheriff may choose to visit a player (notifying the GM’s before the EoN). The Investigative Sheriff will receive word from the GM whether that player is TOWN or SCUM.
If the sheriff is TRICKY, there is a further 50% chance that for the Investigative Sheriff’s FIRST investigation, everything is fine… but thereafter the Investigative Sheriff will continue to receive the same result as the first investigation.
OR
There is a further %50 chance that the sheriff will simply receive the OPPOSITE result of the scan’s true result.
Note: The Sherrif, of course, simply receives the Role Notification below.
The other towns are vanilla town.
Scum
RoleBlock: The Scum team has one factional role block, assigned at night by majority vote of the scum team. No individual performs the RoleBlock. The ONLY town character effected by the RoleBlock is the Investigative Sherrif.
The Bad Guys have ONE factional kill each night. It is not performed by any particularly bad guy, and will be determined by majority vote in the scum hideout. In case of a tie, the FIRST vote counts to break the tie.
Gunman: During the Day, you may shoot a player by DMing the GMs, and declaring your target. The GM will adjudicate your shot AT THE END OF THE DAY YOU SHOOT. All shots made by Gunmen during the Day will resolve simultaneously (along with any Lawmen’s shots) at the END of the Day. Your gun has ONE shot. Your role activates at the beginning of the day indicated in your Role PM.
There are NO Mafia goons.
Special Note for ALL shooters:
Shots, once allocated and activated MAY be held indefinitely, but may only be used in the DAY.
If multiple shots are exchanged, every shot will produce a kill, simultaneously. These shots will be (easily) adjudicated at EoD, and announced publicly.
Dead players’ roles will be revealed publicly upon death. If a lawman or gunman is killed BEFORE activation, they will be revealed as the vanilla role that they KNEW of themselves.
Gunmen/Lawmen will be assigned randomly the days their dayguns will fire.
- If, for example, there are four lawmen, their guns will be activated by a die roll in this manner. For each lawman, a four-sided die will be electronically rolled. The resulting number will indicate WHICH Day that gun will begin to be able to be fired.
- Therefore, all guns MIGHT be fireable on D2. Or they might be spread out unevenly. Or they might be spread out evenly.
The following are the Notification Messages of folks’ roles:
Vanilla Town (AND un-activated lawmen)
Welcome, pardner, to the Shoot Out at the Pretty Good Corral. You are a Vanilla Town. You MUST make an effective vote by EoD, or risk being run out of town on a rail (modkilled). There are no minimum voting requirements. You win when scum is eliminated, or nothing can stop this from happening.
Desperado
Welcome, pardner, to the Shoot Out at the Pretty Good Corral. You are the Desperado. You MUST make an effective vote by EoD, or risk being run out of town on a rail (modkilled). There are no minimum voting requirements.
During the Day, you may shoot a player by DMing the GMs, and declaring your target. The GM will adjudicate your shot as soon as possible. If your target is town (PR or vanilla) you AND your target are removed from the game. If your target is scum, your target dies and your gun reloads. You may shoot as many times as you wish, until you are removed due to hitting town. Your role activates on D1.
You win when scum is eliminated, or nothing can stop this from happening.
Investigative Sherrif
Welcome, pardner, to the Shoot Out at the Pretty Good Corral. You are the Investigative Sherrif. You MUST make an effective vote by EoD, or risk being run out of town on a rail (modkilled). There are no minimum voting requirements.
During the Night, you may choose to investigate one player. You will find out whether that player is town or scum. Your investigation will be revealed to you if you survive the night.
You win when scum is eliminated, or nothing can stop this from happening.
Mafia (Bad Guys)
Welcome, pardner, to the Shoot Out at the Pretty Good Corral. You are a member of the scum team. At this point you do NOT know when your gunman gun is able to shoot. It will be at the beginning of D2, D3, D4, or D5.
You win when town is eliminated, or nothing can stop this from happening.
Your teammates are {redacted}. You will have access to a nightchat room.
Activation Notification:
Your gun is now active. You may shoot ONCE during the Day, or subsequent days. You may holster your weapon as long as you desire to do so.
Friendly helpful GM comment:
Remember, while bullets flying and folk dying IS a pleasurable and exciting event in this game, it is STILL foundationally still a mafia game.

A clarification.
No one has asked about this!
But if you are a LAWMAN, you received a Vanilla Town Role Message. You will NOT know if you are a lawman until the day when your gun activates. IF YOU are a town through and through, you will not have a gun to activate.
That is all.

The Wild West… a time remembered in film, fiction, and fun-in-the-backyard. The good and bad news is that it was both Wilder and Calmer than we have been led to believe.
However, here in the Pretty Good Corral, things are VERY very VERY wild. Four bad guys have snuck into town. They do not like puppies, pizza, political debates, or people.
So they plan to obliterate all of those town-things.
Catch ‘em! Kill ‘em! Insult their grandmothers!
And have fun.

What really happened in those 30 seconds in Tombstone, Ariz., 1881
The gunfight at the O.K. Corral didn't actually happen at a corral.
It is the common name for the gunfight, but Tombstone was a large town of 23,000 folk. The name caught on because calling it the:
'the officer-involved shooting in the alley behind Fry's Photography Studio near the corner of First and Fremont, a little north of the O.K. Corral,' was a bit much.
Cows had nothing to do with it.
The Shootout had nothing to do with cattle-rustling, a bad gang being ‘brought in,’ or revenge. Or LITTLE to do with those things.
A failed plot actually triggered the shootout.
The cows are out, backstabbing is in. Ike Clanton had struck a deal with temporary lawman Wyatt Earp to turn in three of Ike’s associtates who were thought to be responsible for a stage coach robbery. Clanton would get the reward money and Earp would get credit for the arrest, which would bolster his political career.
Unfortunately, the three men were killed before Clanton could name names. Clanton became paranoid that the plot would be discovered and he'd be labeled as a rat — that was the real trigger for the shootout. So he wanted Wyatt and HIS friends knocked off, to keep them quiet.

The Ronin scratched himself. He was hungry, thirsty, and it was a dusty empty trail behind him.
He chooses his path by throwing a branch on the ground for his direction.
Stopping for water, he overhears the kind farmers lamenting that their son has joined up with gamblers and yakuza in an overrun town suffering from two rival gangs.
The Ronin heads to the town and makes friends with an old man there. The Ronin muses that this seems like the place for him to stay, as the town will be better off with both sides dead.

How will various VTs and lawmen flip? Will we be told about someone's being a lawman if they haven't activated yet? When they flip will we be told what day they activated/would have activated?

If their gun had not activated yet, they will flip vanilla. Which answers all your questions regarding this, i think.

b) no
