As usual, I am interpreting "art" broadly as "the arts".

Also, the term "European" has sometime led to discussion. Since we just had a question about birthplace, I will interpret this as asking if he was born in Europe.

Yes.

Clarification needed: there is no green box on the Wikipedia article for Western Europe.

You're right. Clarification: Born in the area marked as dark-blue on the Wikipedia file File:Europe-blocs-49-89x4.svg?

From the file, it's ambiguous whether Spain and Portugal are included. They're colored dark blue, but are not mentioned in the legend by the dark blue box.

True, but the question just asks about "the area marked as dark-blue" regardless of what the legend says.

Yeah, sorry, can you further clarify? Are you asking a question about Cold War alignment of the country of his birthplace? Are you specifically asking about the 12 countries listed in the legend (Greece through Turkey)?

Or should I simply look at the dark-blue area?

The question didn't ask about the legend, only about the color. So, yes, Spain and Portugal are included here.

Spain and Portugal have been eliminated anyway by the latitude question.

No. The location of this person's birth is not in the area that is colored dark blue on that map.
