Did they either play soccer, cricket, or basketball, or invent a well-known sport?

I think Jamie's question rules out cricketers (at least batsmen).

Fair point, but I figure that's a European sport so I threw it in there.

Every cricketer has to be a batsman some of the time, even if it is not their speciality.

Right, but your question said "famous for"... would someone like Muralitharan be famous for doing something with a cricket bat?

Anyways, born in Western Europe (using geoscheme)?

So if I have understood Damo's answers correctly, we need a sportsperson who is not an Olympian, who is known for playing a ball sport, but that ball sport is not:

- Soccer
- Rugby
- Cricket
- Basketball
- Golf
- Snooker
- Pool
- Handball

It was asked twice - but I take your clarification to mean you are kindly only counting it once, thanks Damo.
