it is, in fact, ALEXANDER BUTTERFIELD. And bonus points for the clever way of saying it.

Alexander Butterfield, Deputy Assistant to President Nixon. Famous for being the one to disclose to the Senate Watergate Committee the existence of the Oval Office taping system. The one disclosure, more than any other, that brought down Nixon.

I've been reading a good book on Watergate recently, so he has been on mind. And All the President's Men is one of my favourite movies.

Great! Thanks for picking someone at the sweet spot of challenging but gettable. My late-night musing was on the mark (18 1/2 minutes of missing tape).
