We are halfway, and I'm not sure in my mind whether you'll get there. The game is afoot!

At 15 questions, I'll start dropping hints.

I'm going to use Question Masters prerogative here to add a new rule. Given the correct millenium, one could brute force the Year of Birth in 10 questions, then use Wikipedia to find out who was born that year. I'm not going to allow that, as contrary to the spirit of the game. You have asked four questions trying to narrow down the Date of Birth. I will only allow one more question regarding DOB.

Not counted as a question, as not in binary form. You players may discuss amongst yourselves if you wish.

It was a question directed at Darth. The First English Civil War is not a term I've come across before

For my part, I'll just assume I understood the question in the same sense that the questioner intended.

Is his role in the as yet unspecified war what he is most famous for?

It's a strange thing. When I learned history it was only ever called The Civil War, and even that was considered a poor name because it ignores all the other civil wars. I can only assume that the people at the time just called it The War, and later when we started fighting new wars they called it The Civil War to differentiate it. And this worked fine because it was blatantly obvious which civil war they were referring to, and no one ever broke the habit. Calling it the first English civil war now when so many other English civil wars came before it seems as mad as a box of frogs.

Hard to answer, but as we've gotten to 15 and time for clues, I'll give a more expansive answer. Real life morphs into myth, and its hard to say if he's more famous for what he actually did as a man, or as a myth. I would say he's probably more famous for how he's been posthumously depicted than for anything he did in his actual life. But he probably would not have been so depicted had he not done those things in war. Hope that helps.

2. Real human.
4. Political, military or religious leader.
5, 10. British.
7. Born between 10E and 20W longitude.
8, 9, 12, 13. Had a role in an international war; but not the Napoleonic Wars, War of Spanish Succession, War of Jenkins Ear, War of Austrian Succession, Jacobite Rising of 1745, or First English Civil War.
14. Not royalty or nobility.
15. Most famous for how he's been posthumously depicted, more than for anything he actually did.
