:oldforum: Ten Commandments :oldforum:

Ⅰ Only binary questions may be asked.

Ⅱ If a binary question does not have a yes-or-no answer, the question master must not count the question.

Ⅲ All other binary questions will be answered and count towards a twenty-question limit, regardless of whether they were designated as 'conditional'.

Ⅳ One guess per person does not count against the total twenty questions, but additional guesses by the same person do.

Ⅴ After all twenty questions are answered, there are no more free guesses, and five total guesses are allowed.

Ⅵ No player shall ask more than two consecutive questions or make more than two consecutive guesses (or a consecutive combination thereof) before another player has asked a question or made a guess.

Ⅶ Before the twentieth question is answered, players who have not yet used their free guess may choose to expend their free guess alongside two consecutive questions.

Ⅷ The question master may choose entities real or fictional that are not horribly obscure, so long as they are not repeats.

Ⅸ Whoever guesses correctly takes over from the previous question master; if they do not want to do it, they may choose who to pass the duty onto or just give it to the first volunteer.

Ⅹ If the question master remains undefeated three times in a row, on the third time they must either pass it to a person of their choice, or the first volunteer takes over.

:oldforum: Ten Rules for Those Who Like to Read Multiple Sentences Per Bullet Point. Roman Numerals Count as Bullet Points for the Purposes of this Game. :oldforum:

Ⅰ. The point of the game is to ask 20 binary (yes/no) questions in order to guess the person or character that the question master hath selected. Only binary questions capable of being answered 'yes' or 'no' are valid.

Ⅱ. If a binary question does not have a yes-or-no answer (for example because the question master determines that the answer relies too much on a subjective interpretation or because a technically accurate answer might be unfairly misleading), the question master must decline to answer the question (in which case the question does not count against the total) or ask that the question be rephrased (which only counts if the player resubmits it). The question master may provide additional hints outside of responses to questions entirely at their whim, but any free information that the question master chooses to give out does not count against the question total.

Ⅲ. Players may not make a question conditional on the outcome of a pending question. E. g., if one player asks 'Is the person over 50?' and some gentleman then asks 'If yes, do they wear a monocle?' before the question master answers the first question, then the question master must answer the second question even if the answer to the first is no. Players may make guesses conditional on the outcome of a question, though.

Ⅳ. One 'free' guess per person does not count against the total twenty questions, but additional guesses by the same person do. Will you be a team player or a cutthroat strategist?

Ⅴ. After twenty questions are answered, there are no more free guesses, and five more guesses in total are allowed. Yes, five: not three.

Ⅵ. No player shall ask more than two consecutive questions before another player has asked a question or made a guess. If a player has already used their free guess, or if the game is in the final round of 5 guesses after the 20th question, guesses that would use a question/guess slot count for this rule.

Ⅶ. Before the twentieth question is answered, players who have not yet used their free guess may choose to expend their free guess alongside two consecutive questions. This is by far the most controversial rule in the entire history of webDiplomacy, but history is written by the winners, and not by a certain user who rage quit out of righteous fury when this situation once-upon-a-time reared its ugly head. For hangmen who may have missed out on that special episode of our nouveau Forum's history, our heritage does not say that you can exchange your free guess for two additional questions.

Ⅷ. The question master may choose entities real or fictional that are not horribly obscure, so long as they are not repeats. Question masters and players are discouraged from throwing darts at crowds of people.

Ⅸ. Whoever guesses correctly takes over from the previous question master; if they do not want to do it, they may choose who to pass the duty onto or just give it to the first volunteer. If you threw a dart at somebody and refused to render first aid until they answered your question about whether they have heard of some random real or fictitious entity, this is a great way to make up.

Ⅹ. If the question master remains undefeated three times in a row, they must either pass question-mastery to a person of their choice, or the first volunteer takes over. This has never happened and never will, because we are all too nice to each other. Nevertheless, 'ten' makes for a nice round number.

Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead!

Did this person die before February 29, 1921?
(Yes, I know that day didn't exist, but I mean Feb. 28 or earlier is a yes, March or later a no.)

So given the date of death, this person's date of birth is likely to be between the 1800s and the 1880s.

Please no more questions about birth or death dates, that's a small enough range to work with.
