Not Darkwing.

Let's get dangerous

Here's something to ponder... Would Duck Dodgers be a character in his own right, or would he be covered by Daffy Duck?
Surely Duck Dodgers is a character, played by the actor Daffy Duck, no?

So they are separate in the same way that Michael J. Fox is not actually Marty McFly.
But Michael J Fox is a real person, and Daffy Duck (forgive me if this comes as a shock) is fictional. It would be closer to Captain Picard putting on a hat and pretending to be a PI in one of those insufferable holodeck episodes. Would the PI be a character in his own right, or is it just Picard in a hat enduring a new low of Star Trek script writing?
Don't worry about it - it's not Daffy or Dodgers (in the 24th and a half century!).

Hopefully I haven't run afowl (I'll see myself out) of the limits of obscurity here.

That would seem to me to run into the same oversized duck problem.
Is Daffy oversized? Duck Dodgers is bigger than Marvin the Martian, certainly, but Marvin is exceptionally small. Some ducks are really quite large
As I posted above, "Daffy Duck is as tall as Elmer Fudd". No real duck (forgive me if this comes as a shock) is as tall as a real human.

This character is definitely portrayed as smaller than Daffy. Maybe *slightly* larger than the real version of this bird, somewhat because the posture is human and not avian, but still pretty close IMHO.

Elmer Fudd being the cartoon character no taller than a rabbit? Who famously wears a ludicrously tall hat, presumably to disguise his limited stature?

I see what has happened. You have been to Disneyland and seen Daffy in his full glory and been impressed. However, I regret to say that this was not the true Daffy, but instead an underpaid human in a costume. He is no more the real Daffy than a beaded man in a grotto in a shopping centre is the real Father Christmas

In what sense is Father Christmas anything but a hippy? He turns up at your house at a ridiculous time of day, expects to be fed and given drink, and thinks that by offloading some cheap tat as a present for your kids that somehow makes everything alright.

No, not that I can find. That's 18.

An excellent guess, but, no, not Woody Woodpecker. You had a free guess already, so this counts as question 19. One question left.

Woody does not have a mythical/non-mundane aspect to him...

I imagine that this thinking is along the right lines, but we know that he is a duck, a goose, a chicken or a turkey.

Just want to flag for others this hint: the bird is anthropomorphic.

Yes he does. He can talk. Woodpeckers can't normally speak.

So we seek a male duck, goose, chicken or turkey (but probably a duck since it's a semi-common household pet) that speaks and stands upright like a human and is only slightly larger than the real version of this bird (duck). He has some other characteristic not mentioned previously that makes it mythical, non-realistic, non-mundane and sometimes even beast-like. Furthermore, he first appeared in an animated non-Disney movie or TV show and is not associated with a bear.

Is it Count Duckula's great-uncle's great-uncle, the Archduck McGanza?

Guess: Count Duckula.
In the halls of Transylvania
In the vampire hall of fame, yeah
There's not a vampire zanier than

DUCKULA

He won't bite beast or man
'Cause he's a vegetari-an
And things never go to plan for...

DUCKULA

Yes, Count Duckula the vampire duck, first appearing as a villain in Danger Mouse and then reincarnated (with ketchup!) as the protagonist of his own spin-off show, then again in the Danger Mouse reboot that happened not quite 10 years ago. Two video games and some comic book appearances as well.

The original cartoons were British but shown on Nickelodeon here in the states.

Congrats, Spartaculous!

I had never heard of Count Duckula before this round. But, Wikipedia has everything, including a "list of fictional ducks in animation" (!).

Yeah, I googled "list of cartoon ducks" and he was on the list (most were Disney characters). I was considering giving the clue of "ketchup" at some point... googling "cartoon duck ketchup" pretty much takes you right to the CD wikipedia page.

Both the themes for the original _Danger Mouse_ and _Count Duckula_ shows are kinda catchy, check them out on YouTube. (I almost picked Danger Mouse for this round.)
