Yeah, there isn't a clean solution without inventing something à la 'Emirati' or appropriating the term North American, which might offend the Canadians.

What could we possibly call the Yanks to differentiate them from other Americans? If only there was some existing word that Yanks were known by but no one else was...

About as reasonable as suggesting British people start going by "Limeys", "Rosbif", or "Inselaffe".

The clear solution is to keep calling them Americans as it's what everyone's used to and it causes no problems except for the rare occasions when the context doesn't make it obvious, in which case Yank or US citizen or any other clear phrasing may be required. This is a complete non-issue :razz:
