The only final guess I've got is Guybrush Threepwood.
"My sword is famous all over the Caribbean!"
"...too bad nobody's heard of YOU at all."

Guybrush Threepwood is correct! Well done, Foxcastle, I raise my half-melted mug of grog to you!
Heh, guess I was doomed since I've never heard of them. Good guess Foxcastle!

Guybrush Threepwood (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guybrush_Threepwood) is the main (player-controlled) character of the _Monkey Island_ series of games. In the first, 1990's _The Secret of Monkey Island_ a young Guybrush Threepwood finds himself on fictional Melee Island in the Caribbean to pursue his dreams of becoming a pirate, dealing with the dreaded ghost pirate LeChuck along the way. It's a 2d point and click adventure/puzzle game by Lucasfilm (now LucasArts). There were 5 sequels that followed, the latest being 2022's _Return to Monkey Island_. The first game was originally in 16-color EGA graphics, then a VGA version was released, and then in 1992 a CD-ROM version with remastered music was released (this is the one I have) The first two games in the series were remastered in 2009 and 2010. It's a fun play and I'd highly recommend it.

Oh, and fun fact: in that first game, there is one and only one way to die and lose the game.

I was surprised no one asked if the character had a wikipedia page. Did you read about the origin of the name?

Here's a link to one of my favorite songs on the soundtrack (this is from the 2009 remake): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fj5pIpjS14&t=198s
(I also really like "Stan's Previously Used Vessels", song #13).

"My last fight ended with my hands covered in blood!"
"Then I hope you've learned to stop picking your nose."

(You swordfight in the game with insults and comebacks. It's great.)

If they didn't have a wikipedia page, would they really be considered well known enough to qualify for this game? :D
