How many questions are left?
One.
I just counted up and can confirm that 19 questions have been used up.

Those who haven't guessed yet should expend their free guesses.

After the last question you all will get more five guesses.

Then I win. :zultar:

Is the character a warm-blooded creature which first appeared in a US-produced TV show?

There are multiple not-all-that obscure films featuring the Daleks, so that can't be it.

There are two mid-60s flops featuring the Daleks, so while I wouldn't make this guess myself, I understand how those films could be seen as obscure, and I respect that other people can make their own judgements about what constitutes a reasonable guess.

Hold on, Foxtower.

I can make it even harder to sort through this list by reminding you all that only one film appearance is not obscure.
Are you taking the view that one of the two Dalek films is much more obscure than the other?

I would consider the above comment from JECE to be very misleading if the answer is "a dalek".

<Shrug> I see two options here.

1. We form a Twenty Questions Council. While it will aspire to operate by consensus of all participants, this Council will have absolute authority over the questions asked and guesses made in the game. All proposed questions and guesses will be referred to subcommittees which will study the proposal and return a report to Council, after which the Council will decide whether the question or guess should be asked, denied, or studied further. Only questions that meet the following parameters will be approved: questions must maximally advance information gained; no question may be asked if any member of the Council can devise a hypothetical scenario in which the question does not maximize information gain; questions must minimize ambiguity in any form; questions may not inquire about topics that are less likely to advance information until more relevant topics are exhausted. Only guesses that are correct will be allowed by the Council. The Council will have plenary power to summarily try and execute players who violate the aforementioned parameters for crimes against min-maxing.

2. We let people guess whatever they want to guess.

And considering that I think we've all held our tongues through plenty of shitty questions and guesses, I'm in favor of proposal 2.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

I didn't suggest your guess wasn't allowed, I just commented that I didn't think it was likely to be the right answer. There's no need to over-react as if I've murdered your wife and child.

Technically, this was asked after the 20 questions were used up, but I'll let it slide.

Sorry that I can't provide hints. The scene with this entity is extremely famous and many of you probably know the dialogue in the scene from memory.

So we are looking for a fictional, hairless animal of indeterminate gender, which may or may not be a real species of animal but it's impossible to be sure, which originated in an English-language TV show aimed primarily at adult viewers. It has appeared in one non-obscure movie. It features in a very famous scene which many of us probably know.

The name of the animal does not begin with a vowel. It does not have magical or supernatural powers. It is not portrayed via a puppet or costumed actor.

Fuck me, I haven't a clue.

It is possible to be sure. It's just that I could correctly answer in both the affirmative and negative.

Jamie, I made my guess, you picked at it, I replied with why I thought it was a reasonable guess, and then you continued to pick at it. So I wrote a brief parody about why we should just let people play the damn game, and here were are with you making multiple posts about how unreasonable you think I'm being.

Do you see the irony?

Note also that it's not someone wearing a costume; the media in which they appear contains human characters; and possesses no supernatural powers.

Assuming that the non-obscure movie has a Wikipedia article is a great limiting factor in the list. We should probably have asked about Wikipedia articles but that's okay.

Can someone point me to the posts that indicate this is an animal of some kind?

Well, it's not a human, and it's not a robot, computer, AI, etc.
So "some kind of animal" is all that's really left, wouldn't you say?

If it's a coffee table, or a pack of crayons, or a jar of fucking mustard, I will cry foul.

I'm trying to think of:

Sci-fi or fantasy series that had a hit movie and then straight-to-video sequels.

Creatures that would have been CGI or animated in a live-action movie, which might account for the weird animation answer, which would still allow for aliens/monsters without being puppet/suit.

Sci-fi/fantasy creatures that are more concepts, e.g.: the Nothing from the Neverending Story, the great evil from Fifth Element, or even things like the tar monster that kills Tasha Yar in Star Trek:TNG.
