The guy may not be a household name, but he did something really, really big.
This is what got me thinking. If it's really, really big, someone must have made a film, right?
I can't answer with certainty whether he was ever portrayed in a film, so I'll give you a hint. A far right party is pissed (or pretending to be pissed in a vainglorious attempt to win votes) that there hasn't been a major blockbuster made about your elusive friend.

I think we need a clue.

I can't even think of a decent 20th question. Possibilities might be:

French?
Iberian?
Keep in mind who I represented in the webDiplomacy World Cup.

The 2021 World Cup team names were:

Yorkshire Puddings
Eastern Canada
Prosecco
Great Lakes
Greatest Lakes
Sons of Vlad
California

I can't see JECE mentioned and none of these team names reveal much.

I don't think the 2022 World Cup has happened, has it?

I am confused.

The name "Sons of Vlad" was interesting to me, so I checked and the Romanian language is classified as Romance language... I thought maybe ol' Vlad the Impaler himself, but he lived in the 1400s.

Reading back through the thread, I see someone did mention Romania before but couldn't find any viable candidates.

Aha! Well done, Mr. Joe.

So it's probably a Spanish person.

SUMMARY of the info we have:

1. Dead
2. Male
3. European (possibly Spanish)
4. Couldn't have had a driving license
5. Often been portrayed with a sword (which may or may not have been a sabre)
6. Catholic
7. NOT an entertainer
8. Real person
9,13, 14. Born between 1600 and 1700
10. NOT a native English speaker
11. Cause of death is controversial - some sources say he died of natural causes, some disagree
12. A military commander or officer
15. NOT listed here: https://www.thefamouspeople.com/17th-ce ... eaders.php
16. Native speaker of a Romance language
17. Died after 1690
18. Was NOT royal
19. Did NOT participate in the Nine Years War.
20. Did NOT die between 1711 and 1720

Clue 1: Not a household name, but he did a BIG THING.
Clue 2: A far right party is angry that there hasn't been a major movie made about him.

NOT:
Robert the Bruce
Richard the Lionheart
Barry White
John III Sobieski
Claude Louis Hector de Villars
Vendome
