Is it a poet from Russia or the territory covered by the former USSR, Damo?

I am confused by the answers to Q10 and Q17: not an artist, yet a poet.

Confusion around the artistic and scientific elements makes me think of an ancient figure. I've used up my free guess, so this one will be counted as the 19th question:

Avicenna?

Free Guess: Omar Khayyam - a Persian poet, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher, but not really an "artist".

Perhaps your more familiar with him under his real name - Ghiyath al Din Abu al Fath Umar ibn Ibrahim Nisaburi?

But why would he necessarily have had a doctorate in the modern era?
