There are others like Hernando de Soto and Vasco Nunez de Balboa, if someone else would like to post these guesses.

A conquistador who is not Hernan Cortes? I'll have to go with Francisco Pizarro.

Only one on that list that hasn't been asked yet and rings a bell is Juan Ponce de Leon. So I'll guess him.

Guess I’ll throw my dart and go with Francisco de Orellana.

I sense a 50% dart debate coming up....

I was going to say the same thing.

@Tolstoy: Do you think that 50% of the general population would actually know who this person is?

I think that figure is very location specific. I could name dozens of people that would be very well known in my area that are definitely not known to 50% of the general population. But for me it's very hard to guess which people ARE known internationally.

I personally do not think the 50% rule is needed, as long as you can reasonably find the person on the internet. Maybe we should add a couple of more questions if you pick someone less known.

Why have a limit at all actually? It would be a challenge to pick someone difficult within certain restrictions, like the person should have it's own wikipedia page or something (maybe difficult for fictional people). See how many questions are required to guess said person.

They should. I'm ready for this debate when it occurs. Believe me when I say I could've picked someone MUCH more obscure.

The only Spanish (by birth) conquistador I know is Hernan Cortes.

But Google advises me to guess: Francisco Pizarro.

My apologies: I didn't know this had already been guessed.

With a name on a certain list, I don't think there is any point in further questions to narrow it down. We have two guesses left. Balboa and de Soto are somewhat notorious. I'll go with Balboa, discoverer for Europe of the Pacific Ocean.

Now guessing: Juan de Salcedo.

Also haven't heard of him so all credit to Google if it comes off.
