Then presumably he was a biologist of some kind?

Is it Dr. Benjamin Spock?

I saw "not a physicist" and for some reason it wasn't showing gooner's question.

Chemist is one option. Also computer scientist, geologist, environmental scientist and possibly including social sciences.

Did he write at least one book that could be called a bestseller?

Hard to fathom how a scientist who never wrote a popular book could meet the 50% Dart Test. Ideas anyone?

Regarding my last answer. The person wrote some books - most not for the general public. However, one of his books was less technical and did sell half a million copies over a span of time.

Could be an economist, psychologist. But I agree, most scientists write books. Maybe the term bestseller is a bit vague. I guess the standard for a fiction bestseller is a lot higher than a scientific bestseller, so if you measure the sales of a scientific book by the standard for fiction.....

Economics is a social science but I don't think most people would regard an economist as a "scientist".
