So seems it wasn’t a joke and it now comes down to a coin flip.

My advice Chaqa is literally flip a coin.

THE FINAL CHAPTER

As dawn broke the news came that a popular (and sizeable) local restaurateur had been found dead after refusing, allegedly, to pay protection money to an organised crime syndicate.

MANIAC has died! He was All Jolson, the Vanilla Town.

Not too long afterwards, at a cafe not that far away, two men sat at a small table, playing cards. Small, delicate cups of hot coffee - very good coffee - lent the room a pleasant aroma.

The consigliere of the Gumboni family, Charles Marchella, lit a cigarette and looked silently at his cards for a moment. He almost broke a smile as he addressed his opponent. Almost.

"A new guild? Dat's his-a lordship's, ahhhh... proposal?"

The man opposite him nodded carefully.

"He considers that this would be an elegant solution, yes. You have caused something of a.... ruckus, lately, no? Forming a.... let's call it.... 'Guild of Protection', would enable you to carry on your business in a style which the city would consider more..... acceptable."

Marchella nodded.

"The Gumboni family is considering your proposal."

As if on cue, another man entered the room. Marchella laid his cards on the table as his opposite number looked over to the doorway.

A thin smile crossed Geraldo Ciaco's fat, grey lips. He nodded a quiet greeting and flopped an official-looking document, on high-quality parchment, onto the table.

Rufus Drumknott, chief clerk and secretary to the Patrician, felt a sense of relief as he saw the signature, still slightly wet, on the agreement. Then he looked at the cards Marchella had just laid on the table.

Four Kings.

He looked at the four Kings in his own hand. He'd learned a few tricks in his years at the palace. But he also knew something about the art of diplomacy. He smiled and gently sighed, laying down his own cards, face down.

"Beats me."

Standing up, he smirked as he offered Marchella a handshake.

"What about..... Commander da Vimes?", Marchella enquired.

"Well, you're a legitimate guild now, aren't you? Pay your registration fees, keep your members under order, and the Watch will have no cause to bother you. Welcome to polite society."

Outside, in an alley not far from the coffee shop, a final piece of unsavoury business was being conducted. But Drumknott chose not to be aware of that.

CHAQA has died. He was Dr. John Lawn, the DOCTOR.

DEATHLLAMA8 has survived. He was Charles Marchella, the Mafia FRAMER.

The MAFIA have won Mini Mafia 1022.

GAME HAS ENDED - THANKS FOR PLAYING

Wait. I thought I was the doctor and so was my wife.

I think this definitely goes down as a town loss rather than a mafia win. But let’s not take anything away from scum. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good I suppose.

Thanks for GMing this one Jamie. I don’t think games get closer than a coin toss, so it was well balanced.

Maybe see you all in the next one.

This was a slightly odd game to run but I hope some of you managed to have fun.

The setup was somewhat townsided - for which I take responsibility. Ironically during review, Ghug / Eden felt the setup was scum-sided, but I did not properly realise this was because they felt the Paranoid Crossbow Owner was either one-shot or roleblock-able. In fact, the PCO was a very strong, albeit very swingy role, in this setup, and that has to be my bad.

Having said that, despite a somewhat unbalanced town-sided setup, the Mafia team did well at blending in, killed the Cop N1, and generally got the big calls right (despite losing a member after targeting the PCO).

Town was severely hindered by multiple town players being unable or unwilling to make more than a minimal effort to participate in the game, despite the best efforts of the GM to nudge them.

Commiserations to those townies who did make the effort, and congratulations to the Mafia duo on their win.

I hope you like the flavour.

I think 2 mafia and 9 town is fine balancewise in a vanilla setup, especially given the recent activity issues. The issue was that there was a doctor and a PCO that made it increasingly hard for mafia to kill at night as the game went on, as well as a cop which could've ended the game by roleswapping with the PCO and cleared enough of the game to hit auto. If enough PRs survive to endgame a massclaim also makes things pretty difficult for mafia. We got lucky by hitting two of the PRs with our first three kills - if they remain alive long enough the game likely would've had a different outcome.

In practice, things still worked out for us though, and I have no complaints about how Jamie hosted this game.

You died at the very end for flavour purposes. Maniac was the Night Kill; you were not targeted - check the whole post more carefully.

It's the general flavour convention that when one side has achieved their Win Condition, all the people on the other team have their roles flipped in the final flavour.

Nothing in the rules says this.
