Maybe try to use one of your 3 remaining questions to narrow it down, rather than just randomly naming British writers, or saying "Arthur Conan Doyle" multiple times, huh?

it's a british writer who died post 1900 who did most of his writing pre 1939, which is like, a small range, especially with what's already there

Not specifically, no. That is, he is certianly not primarily known as a "children's author", but older children might be able to enjoy some of his work. I started reading some of his works when I was about 14, but I was a clever little fucker.
