Jece, you are right. The funny thing is that I was thinking of this man, but I thought to check it with wikipedia (as I am always quite insecure), and it had it wrong, driving me to believe I was mistaken. Since then, it was corrected, and I promised myself next time not to be so easy to dismiss my memory as faulty.

1565 Suleiman the Magnificent is at the peak of his power, so it is for the Ottoman Empire. Having ejected the Knights of Saint John from the east Mediterranean, taking the island of Rodes and the Frankish and Venetian forces from Greece, he's planning to consolidate his position by taking Malta and controlling the passage from east to west and vice versa. Unfortunately for him, the Knights find out and have time to prepare for a siege. They gather troops and supplies and strengthened their fortifications while building some new ones. The siege started on May 18th and lasted until September 12, when the defeated Turks had to lift the siege.

Joachim Meyer has written the book: The Art of Sword Combat: A 1568 German Treatise on Swordsmanship that i received as a gift some time ago, but never read. Because of this game, now i probably will.

In 1589 the Grand Duke Ferdinando de' Medici and the French princess Christine of Lorraine married... a catalyst for many years of connection and intrigue between Firenze and France. (The two flags are even similar.) Apparently, the wedding was the social, political, and artistic event of the year.
