And I understand Carl's stance. Chippe's play was not enjoyable for me.
But I think that is some 'Gentleman's agreement'.
When someone disrespects that, punishing him is difficult for GM.
I agree wholly with that point. I might not have been clear enough in divorcing my criticism of the current state of the rules from my opinion on the GMs' decisions. From what it sounds like (that is, ChippeRock PM'd them clearing the tactic with them before posting, and they consented to the tactic being used), I disagree with their decision to allow the tactic, but I think that their decision to allow it was a reasonable judgment call within the current rule set, and since it's their game not mine, their word is final. I think worcej and Jamiet99uk did a great job handling several unexpected twists and turns in an already complicated game and take nothing away from their work.

I am just strongly advocating that such tactics be explicitly banned in the rules for future games, as I think they're clearly outside the spirit of the game and detract from others' experience.
I totally agree with Carl here. I don't believe this kind of tactic should be allowed by the game rules.

As a player in the game at the time it was anything but obvious. Maybe there had been a grammatical error in transposing the VT PMs that got copy-pasted to all players that I was glossing over in my own PM, in which case all VTs could massclaim. If you recall, working on that theory, I actually asked ChippeRock that exact question in the game. If that were the case, there's no chance that the GMs are ever going to confirm to me that they made that mistake with every player, because the game is immediately broken.
If such an error had been made, it would be game breaking. We would have had to restart or abandon the game.

Well. I was right from the start until I convinced myself I was wrong. There was even part of me saying "Flavius would definitely lose a hundred coin to make me think he was town."

Can I just reinforce the fact that placing bets and agreeing wagers absolutely IS a clear rule violation? The only reason we did not Modkill or replace the players involved is because, as far as I know, there is no mechanism for players to transfer Dip points to each other.

People screaming and shouting about ChippeRock should consider why they were not also screaming for us to Modkill Foxcastle or Flavius.

It's been held multiple times that placing bets is explicitly not allowed, both as a violation of Rule 6, and moreover a violation of site rules which prohibit gambling.

I don’t see anything about it in rule 6.

If you were genuinely gambling, be it pizza or money, this would be regarded as cheating. I find it hard to believe you're not aware of the extensive previous issues we've had with this.

As I say the only reason no action was taken is because you have no means to trade dip points with other players, so we assumed you to be shitposting.

Actually, I am not aware of that, no. (I have been on the site less than 2 years, so I assume any major scandal predates me.) And additionally, I don't see any reference to gambling in either the Mafia boilerplate or the site rules.

@Foxcastle, @Flavius

Ahahaha! You broke the "spirit of the game" rule that my haters are so keen on nailing me for!

Why has everyone gone quiet! Where's the outrage? This is an egregious rules violation! While I stayed on the right side of the rules (I'm not saying the ethical side - which is subject to your opinion, so chill out), this completely crossed the line!

Warnings need to be issued! Heads must roll! Ban them for all future Mafia games! Ban them from this site! Arrest them!

Lol.

Seriously though, a formal warning (as in, a PM) should be issued just so both players know that "betting" on a game is a rules violation - as Flavius clearly influenced Fox's read of him with that bet.

I'm ambivalent becase I'd like to get to the endgame and there's the slight chance that he's scum playing a really good game, but I've also got RL stuff to take care of so it's not like bowing out now is gonna make me super sad. The biggest reason I'd think anyone should scumread him rn is because squigs/durga stayed off of him d3, and moved off of him today too. But that's secondary reasoning at best

it looks like a bot, but why a bot would copypaste from the game instead of spamming promo is the question

It did a two-post copypasta with the promo halfway through the second post, but eagle-eyed Dargo already brought down the hammer on the actual ad post 8-)

It's a hidden-link advertising bot.
