Re: The Counting Game
817 AD Emperor Louis I divides the Frankish Empire among his three sons: Lothair, the eldest, is proclaimed co-emperor in Aachen and becomes the overlord of his brothers. He receives the dominion of Burgundy (including German and Gallic parts). Pepin, the second son, is proclaimed king of Aquitaine and receives Gascony (including the marches around Toulouse and parts of Septimania); Louis (the youngest son) is proclaimed king of Bavaria and receives the dominions of East Francia. After his death, the big empire that Carlomagne built will be divided and never be under one ruler again, allowing the French and German people to cultivate their separate identities.

As a part of the secret recipe for a well-known chocolate bar, 818 parts of absolute alcohol must be dissolved in 21000 parts of ether, and 4500 parts of ethyl alcohol. This is OBVIOUSLY done at a constant temperature of 18 degrees centigrade.

828- some Venetian Merchants stole some relics tied to St. Mark from Alexandria, Egypt, controlled, of course, by the Islamic empire. This begins: a) an increased interest in relics; b) a financial war between the Abbasids and Venice; and c) a decrease in friendly communication between Islam and Christianity.

833 AD Byzantine Empire and the Abbasid Caliphate came to a truce after two centuries of war, raids and counter raids. It doesn't stand for long.
