Re: 20 Questions Round 481
Is he primarily known for an association (of any kind) with another person who is more famous than he is?
Re: 20 Questions Round 481
Clarification: does this mean that this person became free during his life, or could "former" just be because he's dead?

Not sure. While the Wikipedia article does refer to this individual as both slave and freedman, it does not specify when the transition occurred.Hominidae wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 3:56 pmClarification: does this mean that this person became free during his life, or could "former" just be because he's dead?

The person this person is primarily associated with: is it a Roman Emperor?
(Also, did you see Damo's guess?)

Re: 20 Questions Round 481
Okay, I think that's actually 20 questions, but we'll reset it to 19 and take free guesses now.

Re: 20 Questions Round 481
I count 19, but I might have miscounted.
2,7. Real male human
3,4,5,8,11,15. Entire life took place within 1-124 AD
9,12. Died in a location that is currently in Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Greece, or any sea province on a standard Diplomacy board, not in Asia or Africa
14,16. Was enslaved and then became a freedman at some point (though Wikipedia is unclear when), but does not appear on the Wikipedia article "List of slaves"
17,18. Primarily known for an association (of some kind) with a Roman emperor who is more famous than he is
13. Primarily famous for being an artist, writer, slave, tribune, or consul
6,10. Not a religious figure, military figure, political figure, or ruler
1. Does not have a Wikipedia page that contains a photograph of the person or of someone else portraying the person
19. Not Epaphroditus (freedman of Nero)
Passed questions:
Has/had at least two biological siblings?
Was this person born within 20 years of Halley's Comet being at perihelion?
Born in Asia or Africa?
Was this person born in a place that was at some point part of Alexander the great's empire?
Is this person known by a name used by them during their lifetime? (“Lucy” and “Mitochondrial Eve” type names given by modern people would not qualify)
NOT
Tacitus (DreamTrawler)
Epicetus (Hominidae)
Icelus Marcianus (damo666)

Re: 20 Questions Round 481
I had missed that there were actually 10 questions before Spartaculous' summary, not 9, so I'd been miscounting since then until I sat down to total just now. Anyway, no biggie.Hominidae wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 9:16 pmI count 19, but I might have miscounted.

Re: 20 Questions Round 481
Based on the Halley's Comet pass, I think the person has to have been born around 8, 46, or 86 AD, but with the date of birth being inexact. Or they could just have an extremely vague date of birth.

Re: 20 Questions Round 481
Where do you get these dates from? I certainly wasn't considering them.

Anyway, I have a pretty good guess, but I already used my free guess.

Re: 20 Questions Round 481
I'll concede that maybe my answer to the Halley's comet should have been a yes, and refund free guesses. (Damo, you've used yours already!)

Re: 20 Questions Round 481
Or wait a minute, maybe that's not fair, since I counted damo's extra guess as a question. Okay, damo, your free guess got refunded too.

Yes, Sporus.
I was unaware of him until recently something had me looking up Alexander Pope's line "Who breaks a butterfly upon a wheel?"
What a crazy and tragic life he had, one more victim of Nero.

Re: 20 Questions Round 481
Yay!
I wasn't trying to get my guess refunded there, but I did appreciate the gesture.
Next thread will be up soon.
