Gregor Samsa is also correct! Alas, a minute too late.
I hope the passes and such made sense now. While Gregor Samsa was once a human, he does not appear in human form in The Metamorphosis, so I felt answering yes or no would be inaccurate. I answered Yes to shapeshifter, and No to human-animal hybrid as I feel that usually describes chimerical creatures.
As for his origin - The Metamorphosis was apparently first published in a German-language magazine in October 1915 before it was published as a novella. Also, there is apparently a graphic novel adaptation as well.
