1) born within the borders of USA at the time
2) A native English speaker
3) Died unwed
I think you might have played in this game before, but if not, welcome!

Yes, using the same definition that Spartaculous used 2 games ago
Can you or someone else elaborate on that definition?
Basically, if there is a reasonable definition of 'art' that you could use to describe this, it's still eligible as a source of fame. I will give the free information that this person is almost certainly not known as an artist.

Is the writing she’s known for primarily fiction?

in that case i'll clarify this person's primary source of fame: some form of non-fiction writing is definitely a major aspect of it, but there is an overarching source of fame that is what more people would say if you were to ask.

I’m wondering if we should ask 20 as something like:

Is her primary fame:

Political
Suffragette
Legal
Activism

Other possibilities:

Science
News
Military
Academic
Performative
Marriage (husband fame)
Other?

My guess is this person is some sort of scientist, historian, or other academic. No idea who though.

I was thinking Florence Allen or some other western born woman prior to being part of USA who had more freedoms legally

I also thought about religion as a possibility. A name that came to mind was Mary Baker Eddy (founder of Christian Science), but it looks like New Hampshire was ruled out as a birthplace.

Oh, I'll withdraw my guess in that case.

Solid guess. Did she ever marry? I was pondering Jamis Joplin if her song writings count, but I don’t think she married.

Someone known for writing lyrics is intriguing, but Janis Joplin I don't think was born at the right time.

I found some Pennsylvanians, but forgot that Pennsylvania voted for Kerry (even though that's where I was living in 2004). Anyways, I once drove on Ida B. Wells Drive in Chicago, so I will guess her.

Thanks Mimi! And thanks too to Bunny - your suggestion to think about suffragists pointed me in the right direction.
