Re: Twenty questions, round 354
In addition to being a Senator or Representative, was he also a Governor?
If Yes, free guess: Huey Long.

Upon reading about Huey Long... I wonder what a 1936 presidential running with him would've looked like if he wasn't assassinated. He had, what would be viewed today as, some pretty far left ideals on wealth and business practice.

That was a very, very impressive guess by cdngooner. There were so many possibilities - I thought you were all in trouble - but you got the right one. (I can pay you the same compliments you paid me after I got Sykes.) Well done.

Re: Twenty questions, round 354
I suggest anyone who doesn't really know the story of Huey Long to read up on him. William Howard Taft called him "the most brilliant lawyer who ever practiced before the United States Supreme Court". Franklin Delano Roosevelt called him "one of the two most dangerous men in America" (the other being MacArthur). Probably no one else in his time did more to practically help the rural poor of the South. When someone suggested that his plans were against the constitution of Louisiana, he said: "I'm the Constitution around here now.". As a senator, he proposed a wealth cap of $100 million, with the excess to be redistributed. As a governor, he was impeached by the state house by a vote of 68-13... but managed to get the Senate to shut it down. And so on.Wattsthematter wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 6:21 pmUpon reading about Huey Long... I wonder what a 1936 presidential running with him would've looked like if he wasn't assassinated. Reading more about his views, his ideology kind of reminds me of leaders from other parts of the world like Peron or Sukarno.

Nice! Guys and gals, I'll give you the night off. Going out to see some movie about a Badger and a Dead guy from Liverpool. Will start new game late tonight or tomorrow morning.
