[No questions for the QM in this post.]

It looks like we have narrowed down her place of birth to 14 countries (many of which are relatively small). We have four questions remaining; we could just try to brute-force the place of birth.

The QM's hint after Q15 suggests that we may be misinterpreting something. But I do not know what that could be. Any thoughts?

Born in an area that is now part of a country where a Slavic language is the primary language?

To clarify your response to Q17: she was *not* born in a Slavic-language country, right?

Q1. Is this a real human being? Yes
Q2. Living man? No
Q3. Born before the beginning of 1913? No
Q4. Living woman? Yes
Q5. Was she born in Eurasia as shown in green on the wikibox map? Yes
Q6. Is she known for either serving in a governmental role, or for having a scientific (including mathematics, medicine, and the social sciences) or literary career? No
Q7. Known for having a role in music, acting, or sports? Yes
Q8. Is she either known for her career in sports, or born in (what is today) one of (PR of) China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, or India? No
Q9. Born in a country that is or was part of the European Union? Yes
Q10. Born later than the end of 1971? No
Q11. British singer/musician? No
Q12. Actress? No
Q13. Is she a singer who sings primarily in the English language? No
Q14. Born in an area that is currently part of Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, or France? No
Q15. Was she born in (what is today) one of the founding members of the European Union (in 1993)? No
Q16. Is she known for singing? Yes
Q17. Born in an area that is now part of a country where a Slavic language is the primary language? No

So, by what I believe to be the common understanding of the guessers, we are looking for a real female singer, born before 1972, in one of Romania, Cyprus, Austria, Hungary, Malta, and the Baltic states, who primarily sings in a non-English language.

What information could we be incorrectly deducing? Looking at the questions one by one, I don't see a way to misinterpret Q1-Q6. The answer to Q16 makes Q7 clear. I don't see a way to misinterpret Q10-Q13. Thus, I conclude that there is most likely something up with the EU-related birth location questions (Q9, Q14, Q15, Q17).

Perhaps the following is what is going on here: she was born somewhere in Asia, back when her homeland was a European colony - say, Pakistan before independence. That then potentially facilitated a "Yes" answer to Q9 from the QM. Q14, Q15, and Q17 are all clear that they are asking about the country that currently controls her birthplace; Q9 doesn't.

I'll take the two +1s as implicit permission to ask as Q18:

Was she born in Asia?

(You can use the map at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asia, but I do *not* want to count Cyprus as being in Asia for the purposes of this question.)

We could've also interpreted "founding member" wrong. Where they were born could be/have been an EU state that wasn't an original member.

If you mean "which countries are within the boundaries of "Indian subcontinent"?"

then

Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

I have a clarification question for the QM. I would not like this to be our final question, and would prefer that you not answer it rather than have it count as Q20.

We basically know by now that she was born in Asia in a colony of a European nation. I will insert my own commentary that she could have been born in a time of political upheaval.

So: if she was born in a former colony between the time that her country declared independence from its colonizers and the time the colonizers recognized its independence, would you have given a "yes" to Q9?

This depends on the political situation in the place she was born. If there are more than one claimants to that place at the time she was born, I would consider the one with clearly more control of the place she was born as the country controlling such territory.

Third hint: Her birthplace was not contested to a degree I could not determine ownership within few seconds at the time she was born.
