@CALLGM - What does it mean to "control the vote?" Also... when precisely it triggers: EoD, or immediately. iirc other mafia sites play by different mechanics, wherein phases are not timed, but an elimination happens as soon as all players are voting (i.e., the way we count hammering here).

But like civilized people we wait until the appointed time to count votes, so ... when is "controlling the vote" counted? A majority of maf players end the phase on a single wagon? (what if there's a tie?) Does mafia control the vote when a non-mafia player is the leading wagon? Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I'd love clarity on this.

I'll wait for Worcej to answer this but my own assumption was that "control the vote" simply means that the Mafia have more voting power than the other players combined, i.e. they have 50% or more of the votes and therefore can vote as a bloc to prevent their team mates being daykilled and/or ensure mis-day-killings.

Absent of special items or powers, this often causes the game to end in a Mafia win on the basis of the "nothing can prevent this happening" part of their win con. The special feature of this game, as I read it, is that Mafia must ensure their little cashpot is in a positive balance when they reach this stage, otherwise, instead of winning, they lose.

Strategy wise, this means they are allowed to risk over-spending (or going overdrawn, if you will) early in the game in order to get a head-start, but if they do this, they must later take steps to recover their balance or they'll be unable to win.

GM Note:
The 24 hour 'pre-game' phase of D1 will be where the mafia team picks the roles they want and their pre-game options. This will result with their starting budget, which will be hidden from town during the game. From that point, roles will be randomly assigned to the town players based on the mafia choices.

That being said, if the mafia team does choose to add a member to their team, the person will get a randomly assigned role out of the list of a available roles first, then recruited to the mafia team.

@CALLGM - does the newly-mafia-aligned player have to pay for their new roll? I.e., if maf adds someone, can they get a deal on "doublevoter"?

Also, I forgot to specify that if the mafia team controls the vote (which means past lylo or if it's 3-3-0, 3-4-1, 2-3-1, etc) and if they have a negative balance when they gain control of the vote, then they also immediately lose. This is mentioned in the MafiaWiki thread and also applies to this game, along with if the mafia team is day-murdered-by-vote.

GM Response:
1. No, the recruited scum player will get a random role and it will not cost the scum team anything since it was entered into the 'randomized town pool'

2. 'Control the Vote' effectively means scum can tie/force the day votes to what they want. This usually doesn't actually occur in most games because once the scum can do this, we usually end the game at that point. This happens usually post-mylo/lylo. Jamie also explained this concept pretty well too.
