I'm not sure whether this is signalling or buddying but your recent obsession with being on the same page as Xorxes is certainly a point of note.

He said earlier that he disagreed with the idea behind smokescreens but didn't say why. I'm letting him know that I'm going ahead with the idea + now is the time to say something.

To add to all of that, I don't see many reasons for the janitor not being used. I'm mostly dismissing the forgetful reason (looking at you, damo), which leaves me with either (a) DP hit the janitor, or (b) the janitor held their action to simulate the first option. Hats off to the scum team if they intentionally did (b), but I think (a) is more likely.

You are missing possibility (c).

If DP is one of the fake claims, it's a good idea, because it forces one Mafia to make some commitment.

Since I don't know whether DP is town or Mafia, I don't know yet if your plan will be useful or detrimental.

Espresso knows that there is a Janitor in play - so much so that in discussing why Vecna wasn't janitored, he only considers scenarios in which the Janitor is definitely in play.

Imo, the risk of the first is offset by how bad it would be if DP died without town knowing the target.

Also, it doesn't change their claim per se, it just changes the amount of fake information their claim generates. If Percy was the real DP target, for instance, that wouldn't change his rolecop claim. It would just change whether or not he supplied his scan later in the game.

This entire "smokescreen" is, I purport, actually (a) an effort to look useful, AND (b) motivated by a concern that whoever power-stripped his Janitor buddy is an insightful player who already spotted one or more scum, and needs to be eliminated - thus using the smokescreen to see who picks the real janitor as their target.
