I was thinking Geronimo because it is used as common expression when attempting a risky activity (jumping out of a plane, for example).

I have not yet been able to find another eponym (which seems to be the link- between the four, I've seen each of the other three answers in eponym lists) that seems to fit.

It's annoying, I feel like I should know it.

Father Todd Unctious would have been an excellent choice for another game

One hour to go...

Is it time for JECE to put people out of their misery?

I could end it by insisting that all the names in my Todd Unctious post are sincere guesses.

I should frame this on a (virtual) wall. I think it's the first time that I've ever seen Octavious concede a point and admit that he was wrong.
I'll have you know I have admitted I'm wrong and you were right on every occasion it has been so.

If you were right more often you'd have noticed ;)

An imperious performance from JECE who carries the flame into the next round.

Well played, sir. My hat is duly doffed

JECE has first dibs on the reveal. If not, I'll let you know tomorrow.

But for now, let's just say it was the Texas Congress you were looking for

Drum roll...

It was Samuel Augustus Maverick, born July 23, 1803, South Carolina - died September 2, 1870, Texas, and educated at Yale University. Fought in the Texas Revolution and was captured and imprisoned by Mexico. Was later elected to the Texas Congress.

Maverick was known for being particularly independently minded, so much so that the word maverick has meant unorthodox ever since. Last year Tom Cruise helped ensure that the word was plastered over advertising billboards everywhere as Top Gun: Maverick became one of the top grossing films of last year.

And, for any amateur etymologists out there, Maverick's grandson (also a Maverick) was the man who invented the word "gobbledygook"
