13. US citizen for part of life
14. Fought in war of liberty or independence or civil war or a rebellion
15. Political Prisoner
16. Did not fight on US side in American War of Independence
17. Died a natural death
18. Did not write a major work of literature
19. Served in US Congress.

Person B
1. Real Human
2. Not involved in sport
3. Dead
4. Not a musician
5. Probably did not have a college degree
6. Man
7. Not born in Europe
8. Not associated with the performing arts
9. Died before 1st January 2000
10. Not primarily known for involvement in philosophy or religion although did have involvement
11. Held a military or government position

Question: Did they serve as President, Vice-President, or a member of the Cabinet in the United States or any other country?
A) I don't believe so (easy to trip up over the details when it comes to foreign governments I don't properly understand) , but I'll be generous and say he was a member of Congress and was an active member of various committees

B) No. He was involved in politics, but not at the highest levels
I take it that none of these men are on the list of who we are looking for either:

Are you asking the question master to confirm that?

This would be our final question, if so.

Or, are you merely stating your view that this fact is implied by the answer to my question?

At the risk of giving away too big a clue, that was an interesting interpretation from Jamie

Some impressive thinking from JECE. So much so that I'm inclined to be generous and confirm that A and B are not on the list

Stop doing this. Adjudicate the game with a straight bat. Please. It's not fair to us if you keep doing otherwise.

I assume you are making some kind of reference to these items added to the summary by me:

Person A
19. Served in US Congress.

Person B
19. Was involved in politics but did not serve politically at a high level.
Now here was your answer to my question:

B) No. He was involved in politics, but not at the highest levels
With regard to A, you said he was a member of Congress.

With regard to B, you said he was not involved in politics "at the highest levels".

I have not "interpreted" your answer in any "interesting" way. I have reflected the answer you gave, in a natural reading of the words you used in your answer.

I feel that you're very close to spotting it. Spend a little bit more time focusing on the difference between what I said and what you wrote and it should become obvious

You said "he was a member of Congress". I said "member of US congress".

The only difference was the "US".

So I must conclude that person A was not a member of the US congress, but of a "congress" other than that.

So, taking this into account, the final question:

Did either of these people align with the Confederate side during the American Civil War?

Well done! At times I think I must be talking utter gobbledygook based on the responses I get

A) technically aligned with the Confederate side, I guess, although he argued in favour of the union before the war broke out.

B) Nah, he was 6ft under well before the that war

All questions have been asked. The game will end at close of play tomorrow. Everyone is given one additional bonus guess by virtue of me being a soft touch!

Right, I have to disappear and read the latest dross from the leader of the RMT union, so won't be about for a while. There will be no further clues past this point other than offering points of clarification if needed. Although I may be tempted after a period of time has passed to highlight the posts in which clues have taken place

You learn so much with these games. Elbridge Gerry of gerrymandering made it to the vice presidency. President John Tyler was elected to the Confederate Congress, but died before he could serve and had his coffin draped with the Confederate flag.

Yes, I wondered if Eldridge Gerry was an option but his vice-presidency rules him out.

"Yes, I wondered if Eldridge Gerry was an option but his vice-presidency rules him out."
I ruled out Gerry because he served in various capacities during the war, including helping to manage the Continental Army's supply lines.

Why would that rule anybody out? I thought that we were looking for somebody who fought in the war.

Person A definitely took part in a war, which could very well have been the ACW.
