I hope those celebrating Hanukkah are willing to shed a tear for the thousands of women and children being murdered in Gaza by the forces of the so-called State of Israel.

And before anyone tells me this is a rude or unreasonable comment, let me point out that across the Western world, anyone expressing sympathy with a dying infant in Palestine is immediately shouted at by Israeli stooges yelling "DO YOU DENOUNCE HAMAS? YOU ARE AN ANTISEMITE IF YOU DON'T?!??!?!"

I express solidarity and festive kinship with all those members of the semitic faiths and cultures who denounce the Nazi state of Israel.

I have donated money to help people in Gaza. Do you also make this comment when people mention Christmas or any other holidays? Also, what are "Semitic faiths"?

This probably doesn't belong in the Forum Games thread, for which I apologise.

The genesis of this post / comment was an outrageous exchange on another platform where I received abuse for posting a pro-Palestinian message, from someone who claimed that it was anti-Semitic to express support for Palestinians during Hanukkah.

I have seen other comments online from pro-Zionists such as:

"The story of Hannukah proves our ownership of the land."

"Hanuka is the most Zionist holiday. It reminds the anti-Israel crowd that the Jews fought for independence almost a millennium before Islam was even conceived."

"Hannukah is a holiday about kicking foreign invaders out of Jerusalem. Of course it's going to be problematic for anti zionists; they are the reason that holiday exists in the first place."

Etcetera.

Thank you, Hominidae, for your support to charities working in Gaza. They are doing very valuable work in unspeakably difficult conditions while under constant threat of murder by Israeli soldiers. Your donations are very important.

The term "Semitic religions" most commonly refers to religions that were founded in Western Asia, such as Judaism and Islam, and, depending on your definition, Christianity. But I guess that detail is less important.

Happy new year.

It's always good to show support for the Palestinian people particularly over the past year, and I agree that the people you quoted are out of line. That said, my issue is with the implication that "those celebrating Hanukkah" have some sort of extra obligation to support Palestine that others don't have. If that's not what you meant, then you could have worded it better.

Either way, we have been warned before to not have political discussions in threads for this game, so we should stop, but if you wanted to start a "What obligations do people have to take sides in international conflicts?" thread in the appropriate forum, maybe people would be interested in commenting.
