Re: Mafia Olympics (minigame #1029) Spy vs Spy Signup List
brainbomb
Representing Nebraska
Playstyle: Aggressive, Intuitive, Hypothetical
Prefers: Town
Record as Mafia: 4 wins out of 10 games
I think I probably talk alot as both alignments. I suck as mafia, and usually just implode. I have tons of theories as town, and I try to aggressively solve the game.
worcej
Representing Idaho
Worcej is a veteran player who also happens to be GM of Game 3 in the Mafia Olympics. His play is characterized as town by having a general dislike for being pushed when he is a PR, and typically a disdain for people who talk too much. His scum game is quite talented, and he is among one of the top 25 scum players on the forum. His overall record as mafia is 4-8 or a 50% winrate in his career. He ranks 10th among town players in total wins as Town, and his town winrate is at 44%. Worcej is also among the top 5 most frequent GMs on the forum having 14 games under his belt now as a GM or co GM.
Hamilton Brian
Hamilton Brian has been scum more in recent years than he had been in his early games. His winrate as mafia is at 50%. This places him among the top 30 overall out of the 85 players on the forum who have ever been mafia. Hamilton plays with a unique style, making interesting decisions every time he enters a game. He is unique, and brings tremendous character to whatever role he plays as. Whether it is his famous readslist as scum, or his infamous self voting as town, Hamilton will keep you guessing what he will do next.
Bozotheclown
Bozo, the master of surveys, the asker of questions, and the enigma. Is he real, is he a robot, who is this man? Is he even a clown. Whatever the answer may be, bozo is one of the most active players on the forum of all time. He has played in 34 games as town on the forum with a winrate of 44%, As mafia he has played 13 times, winning 7 of them with a winrate of 54%. Bozos towngame is synonymous with surveys he will ask players to engage in so that he can collect data which the mafia often attempt to stop or become fearful of. Bozo tends to be aggressive when he thinks he is onto something, and will put significant effort into his interrogations of his suspicions. As mafia he is quite good at replicating the same look, feel and style of play that his town game has.
BunnyGo
Seldom ever miskilled, and one of the most regularly murdered town players. Bunny is a large anvil that is hard to move. Mafia cannot miskill him so often they find themselves removing him from games for his ability to stand up under pressure. Bunny has been town in 20 games now on webdip with a winrate around 40%. His mafia winrate is at a mean 57% winning 4 of his 7 times as mafia. Bunny often uses a gimmick of some sort, which involves sending posts to the god chat to convey his ideas, or he will hide for a while and collect his thoughts. Either way, Bunny is always reading! The Bunny never stops thinking and reading. As Mafia Bunny talks less, but manages to typically stay alive for long periods of time by blending in effectively.
Bonatogether
Bona brings in that fresh Gen Z energy to the forum. His playstyle is very conversational, and focuses on arguing the merits of if someone else talking points are valid or not. Bona talks a lot and often ends up a top poster in games where he is town. With a Mafia winrate at 60% he also knows how to hide, how to blend in, how to look good, and how to kill town! So don’t just rest on bona! He also has been town 16 times on webdip with a 43% winrate. One thing to expect from bona is that if he thinks you are mafia, he might be right!
DiplomacyandWarfare
DiplomacyandWarfare is among the new generation of players to come into the forum. Joining around the time sweetandcool, Justaguynamedwill, and a handful of others came along, Dip is known for being mafia. Like ALL the time. His winrate as mafia in mini games is at a 100% so beware this guy can mini with the best of them. Famously known for his job in M89 as the Gladiator, killing scum Balki on day 2 in a fight no one expected. Dip is an interesting character who seems to just end up being mafia all the time. M87, M88 and M1028 all in a 2 month span.
ghug
Representing: Cascadia
Among the most active, most decorated members of the community. Ghug has been town 44 times, winning 20 of those games with a winrate of 45%. Mafia is where he has truly been a one man wrecking machine. With a 64% winrate as mafia, multi time MVP, and the most games played as scum of anyone else on the entire forum, ghug is a beast. A champs rep in 2023 took him to semifinals after being voted to advance by his peers. Ghug brings a ton of skill and integrity to the game. He wants things to be done right, and he likes a good discussion. He is quite good at being nightkilled rather than miskilled, and never struggles to be one of the most engaged posters in any given phase. Ghug is also a gm on the forum who has run many successful games including the masterpiece that was M22, possibly the greatest game ever played on webdip forum.
Yoyoyozo
Having survived multiple generations of players yoyo continues to surprise and come back for more. Going 7 of 11 as town and a winrate of 63% yoyo just doesn’t end up on losing teams very often. His mafia winrate is even more shocking at an 80% winning 4 of his 5 times as scum. Yoyo is a team player, a very well spoken and interesting player. His play style is very much to ask questions and produce ideas about what is happening. His scumgame is going to be very skilled at replicating that style as well. Yoyo has mastered activity levels that suit him and work to his ability to navigate a game.
Col7by
Forums newest newcomer. Their first experience in forum mafia on webdip was M89 which probably doesn’t suit anyone very easily. Col7by was playing well enough in M89 that near the end of the game, rather than killing a known town PR, the mafia elected to kill Col7by despite him being a possible miskill option. His play had triggered them that he may possibly be some town PR and of course, col7by was actually just a VT. This rookie has some promise, mostly playing mafia with BunnyGo offsite. His style is still evolving and he brings new energy to the game. Most impressive was his ability to stay afloat in a game with nearly 300 pages of content to read.

I'm the weak player
although the weak/strong player thing gets totally screwed by recruitment
bc each maf team wants to recruit a strong, townread player who the other maf team wont choose and neither the opposing maf team nor the town thinks they will choose.
In this setup, the overwhelming likelyhood seems to be that a maf team will win, even if one is eliminated day 1. Therefore,
whoever is recruited has an advantage, therefore
whoever people believe are strong players have advantages, therefore
the strongest players artificially have greater advantages.
Also, townreads based off prior behavior are basically invalid because that player may have been converted.
Therefore, keeping townreads between days is a bad strategy.
Therefore, starting d2 and onward readlists should be from null to maf at start of the day (developing reads about who you think is town on a given day is fine, as long as that doesn't carry over to the next day)
Btw, scumreads based on who you think has been converted are both reasonable and incredibly rude because you are potentially miskilling or potentially correctly voting people because of either circumstances they have no control over or because of how towny they have previous acted.
Moreover, because being converted gives one an advantage, being widely scumread is basically a death sentence because either you are daykilled or you are just ignored and maf will never convert you because they dont want to convert someone whos gonna die.
Therefore, because the group scumreading me leads to a situation where I will almost certainly lose, I will automatically scumread anyone who heavily scumreads me and heavily scumread anyone who votes me.
Wow, that got off topic.
TLDR: Basically town is encouraged to powerwolf as town, getting wagoned (even unsuccessfully) means you lose, you can't keep townreads longer than 48 hours, and strong players get extra advantages. And no doubt I am going to be heavily scumread and hammered d1 for mentioning this analysis on d1.
A very unusual mafia game, but very original and seems very fun!

I was just pondering this recruitment thing. I was once a PR in a game with recruitment. And played in such a way as to make myself a big target for recruiting but also made it very very difficult for me to play once I was recruited.
Town won…but I think I technically lost. But the town!me who played the first few days very well (IMHO) “won”?
I dunno. Something for the judges to keep in mind this game.
And I’d not say you’re the soft player in the room.

Just realized: Isn't this literally mechanically impossible for town to win?

umm... no.DiplomacyandWarfare wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 2:14 pmJust realized: Isn't this literally mechanically impossible for town to win?
I have played this through quite a number of times (on paper and in Einsteinian Thought Experiments) to a successful town ending.
However, I will not comment here on strategy pre-game. Or during game...

##CALL GM
What happens if D1 a spy is the DK?
What is stopping the remaining spy team from permanently recruiting? Since there would not be another spy team to potentially counter their recruiting attempts, it seems like an auto-loss for Town.
Is there something I am missing?
D1: 1-1-8 DK spy. Becomes 1-0-8
N1: Successful recruit. Becomes 2-0-7
D2: DK spy. Becomes 1-0-7
D3: Successful recruit. Becomes 2-0-6
And so on.

Would it be possible to switch me to a different event? My wife’s grandmother just took a sudden turn for the worse (not sudden in general as she’s 100, but sudden in that we had no reason to suspect she’d die this month). I’ll likely be needed to help out a bunch in the next few days.

I assume this will be addressed in the game thread?
if not I had a few ideas.
namely just do what Jamie said, only the OG mafiosa can recruit
or give town one member who simply cannot be recruited, a PR basically
or start the game N1 so there is zero chance of a mafia dying right away
