Re: Mafia 1033 - The Next Generation [Hidden]
Meanwhile, in the lower decks, Ensign Ro Laren had managed to gather a small group of loyal crew members. They were bruised, shaken, and unarmed, but their resolve to take back the ship burned brightly. Ro, clutching the only operational phaser they had, addressed them in a low voice as they huddled in a maintenance alcove.
“They’ve already taken too much from us,” she said, her gaze fierce. “But we’re not done fighting. We’re Starfleet, and that means something. We’re going to retake this ship—or we’ll make them pay for every inch of it.”
One of the engineers, a young ensign, nodded hesitantly. “But they have Engineering locked down, and they’ve got the crew under guard. What can we do?”
Ro’s jaw tightened. “We don’t need to win this fight outright. We just need to create enough chaos for the Captain to regroup on the bridge. We’ll draw them out. Focus on the imposters—they’re the key to all of this.”
With whispered affirmations, her group moved out, navigating the dim corridors with silent determination.
They reached Engineering, where the three Romulans were finalizing their control of the ship. Ro peered around the corner, assessing their positions. The one disguised as Geordi stood at the primary console, while the others—posing as Crusher and Troi—patrolled the area.
Ro signaled her team to fan out and take cover. Taking a steadying breath, she aimed her phaser and fired, the beam striking the console beside the imposter Geordi in a shower of sparks.
"Move! Now!" she shouted, rushing into the room.
Chaos erupted. The loyal crew members sprang into action, overwhelming the guards stationed outside Engineering with sheer numbers and desperation. Ro’s group managed to disrupt the Romulans’ control, forcing them into defensive positions.
But the fight was short-lived. The imposter Crusher activated a localized force field, cutting off Ro’s team from the engineering core. The loyalists pounded uselessly on the barrier as the Romulans regrouped.
The imposter Troi smirked, her voice calm and icy. “You’ve made your move, Ensign Ro. And now it’s time to surrender.”
Ro’s defiance was written across her face, but her team’s desperation was evident. They were outmatched and outmaneuvered.
“Don’t give them the satisfaction, Ensign,” one of her team whispered.
Ro’s hand tightened on her phaser. She met the imposter Geordi’s gaze, her voice steady despite the odds. “We don’t surrender to traitors.”
The Romulan Geordi inclined his head, as if impressed. “Then you leave us no choice.” He raised his disruptor.
A single, searing green beam lit the room, and Ro Laren crumpled to the ground, her phaser clattering beside her.
The remaining crew froze, their will to fight extinguished. One by one, they raised their hands in surrender.
On the bridge, Picard and Riker stared at the silent viewscreen as the ship banked toward Romulan space. Picard had hoped to hear from Ro, to feel even a faint spark of hope that someone was still fighting back. But the empty silence told him everything he needed to know.
Riker broke the quiet. “They’ve won, Captain.”
Picard’s hands gripped the armrests of his chair. His voice, though quiet, carried a weight that filled the room. “They’ve won this round, Will. But I refuse to believe this is the end.”
“We’re locked out of every system,” Riker replied. “And if we’re handed over to the Romulan Senate—”
Picard interrupted, his eyes sharp. “We are not done. The Enterprise is more than this ship. It is its crew, its ideals. We will find a way, no matter what it takes.”
Riker nodded, his own resolve hardening in response to Picard’s words.
As the Enterprise-D slipped into orbit around Romulus, its crew confined and its command subdued, the spirit of Starfleet endured. Somewhere, deep within the ship and its people, a quiet but unyielding defiance remained.
