The damp, dimly lit cell on Risa had been their home for days. Geordi La Forge, Deanna Troi, and Beverly Crusher, weary but determined, crouched together as they finalized their plan. The Romulan captors had underestimated them, assuming their spirits would break under confinement. They were wrong.

“This is our chance,” Geordi whispered, nodding toward the single guard pacing outside.

Troi nodded, her empathic senses attuned to the guard’s dwindling vigilance. “He’s distracted. Now.”

Beverly Crusher, clutching a makeshift tool she’d crafted from a piece of their cell’s cot, moved swiftly as Geordi short-circuited the cell’s lock with a wire he’d salvaged. The door hissed open, and before the guard could react, Beverly struck with precision, knocking him unconscious.

“Let’s move,” Geordi urged, taking the guard’s weapon.

Navigating the labyrinthine corridors, they evaded detection and found a communications station. Geordi’s hands flew across the console as he bypassed the Romulan encryptions. “This is Geordi La Forge to the Enterprise. We’ve been held hostage—Romulan operatives have infiltrated the ship. They’re imposters. Repeat, they are—”

His transmission cut short as alarms blared. The Romulans on Risa had discovered their escape.

“Did it go through?” Troi asked, her voice tense.

“I don’t know,” Geordi admitted, sweat beading on his forehead. “But we need to get out of here now.”

On the Enterprise, Captain Picard received the garbled message just as chaos erupted aboard the ship. Worf, guarding the crew confined to quarters, was attacked by crew members overwhelmed with suspicion. He fought valiantly but was overwhelmed and disarmed.
