I was on this site even before EM, and it's the only forum mafia I've ever bothered with, but I hadn't played in over a year (once the pandemic nostalgia effect wore off) til RHK randomly gifted me Victoria 3 based on a promise I had no recollection of him making in a game here last week drew me back

how did everyone get into mafia? and what do they like about it?

For me I first played with Jesuit priests in 2003. at the time I was at a retreat for people interested in the priesthood. hard to imagine but I was instantly in love with the game. 20 of us on a big porch, priests included, playing face to face mafia with minimal roles. after this I started throwing mafia parties and inviting people over. every thanksgiving id play with my whole family. Years later I started playing resistance with people on fridays.

flash ahead to 2015 living in missouri teaching art at missouri state university I got hooked on forum mafia.

DRHK was like "weaponize your social anxiety" and I was like. "okay."

Then I joined with no real knowledge of what Mafia was beyond "Townies have to vote the scum off the island before scum kill them all" (and maybe a few things that were in manga plots) and spent my first game staring at the thread for over 24 hours and posting until I kinda burned out really hard around D3 and realized mafia probably wasn't for me.

Then I'm playing Satisfactory with Demon and he was like like "people were asking if you'd join and I told them 'probably not'" and so I came back because the people I played with seemed to like playing with me.

I got invited by someone I considered to be one of my best friends though we've kind of fallen off now to play on a forum for a NationStates community. I played my first several games there but I'm shadow banned over bullshit now.

Anyways when I started I was a memer who occasionally threw in some reads but mostly I just played too fuck around and have fun than I went to champs mafia was ruined for me forever I want to refund my passion for it but it mostly just infuriates me when I try because people treat me like a noob or tell me I'm bad kinda makes me want to go back to being a joke because I want to be

This isn't a thing about webdip to be clear it happens everywhere.

So what do I like about mafia...it used to be a place where I made friends... still do sometimes but I feel like I make friends a lot less now and even when I do I usually lose them during a game of mafia for one reason or another.
