I think an unqualified "no" to the fruit question means this is not a tomato or a cucumber.

I'm thinking potato, but I can't think of any famous potatoes.

Came across this last night and didn't think it was notable enough to guess. But I don't think there is any other possibility. It may be the only specific European vegetable with its own Wikipedia page (to the extent that is being used here).
