I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this on, I just signed up for this. Anyway, My friend and I would like to start playing this game but we would like to start with just the two of us and the rest of the players as AI to get a feel for the game. Is this possible? If so, how do I go about setting up such a game? Thank you in advance.

It is possible to do this, but only in a gunboat (no messaging) game. After selecting gunboat, there should be a dropdown setting that says something like, "Fill empty positions with bots?" I would suggest that you use a different platform for messaging your friend, or you could just play it how it is to get a feel for the tactics of Diplomacy.
Otherwise, there are tons of players on the site who would be more than happy to show you the ropes! Just set a password for your game, post it on the forum, and you'll have it running in no time!
