I was thinking the same pair. Curious what the Huey Long connection is though.

If correct, nice connection to a fictional character I once chose as well.

Sorry for asking the poet question when the journalism question was unanswered.

Carl Bernstein is CORRECT. Spartaculous wins all my games as QM. I was cognizant of the fact that all the questions up to "E in the name" could have gone to either Woodward or Bernstein.

And the bonus point also goes to Spartaculous. Robert Penn Warren's novel "All the King's Men" was a thinly veiled biography of Huey Long. Woodward and Bernstein adapted the title for their even more famous book, "All the President's Men".

I challenge you, Spartaculous and all future winners, to keep this chain going. Each subject must have a connection with the prior subject. And the connection can't be some boring demographic detail like they were both American, or both generals. Something elegant and interesting!

In addition to round 189, note the connection to round 162.

It would be interesting to see what other random connections can be found between past picks. You've previously noted 8, 70, 235, 241 as a set. An intriguing set is 118, 202, 215, 320, 350. I don't think anyone ever picked up on the connection between 142 and 206.

I had a bit of an advantage here, having read Warren's novel some years ago. The connections to Long are unmistakable, although apparently Warren somewhat downplayed the similarities. (Off topic, but nuance of the Huey Long story I had missed earlier: there is some speculation that Long actually wasn't assassinated - at least in the usual sense. Rather, it is possible that the believed assassin only punched Long instead of shooting him - and then Long was killed by bullets from his bodyguards as they shot the other guy.)

I like the idea in principle, but I'm unfortunately going to disappoint you here. I already had something planned for my next round, which you'll see soon enough...

Haha! The Alexander Butterfield connection, I was aware of. Humpty Dumpty I did not catch at all, but must have been in my subconscience. Great connecting!
