Pass. (I'll be generous and make it clear that there are definitely no Oscar nominations here; the pass is for the possibility of Emmy nominations / wins.)Wattsthematter wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 11:59 amHas an actor been nominated for an Emmy or Oscar for depicting this character?

Okay. Time for me to start showing my cards a bit today, as the game is going somewhat slowly. Every so often, there is a round where Sparty tries to figure out how far he can push the envelope in terms of making a pick. This is one of those rounds.

PASSED questions:
Has an actor been nominated for an Emmy for depicting this character?
(Definitely not an Oscar)
Introduced in the 21st century?
(We think pre-2000 but not 100% sure)
##CALL QM: How many questions are left?

Re: Twenty questions, round 348
I am trying to think of an American sketch comedy show which crosses the 20th and 21st century and the only one I can immediately find is Mad TV (which ran from 1995 - 2009).
This is not a question, I am just projecting my thoughts into the thread.

No. Not originally from Mad TV. It looks like there are 5 questions to go.

I'm really puzzled as to what show it could be.
Any ideas, brains trust?

The first appearance of that character was in 1997 so I don't think it can be.

Yeah, you're right. I was hoping maybe the pass was for the uncertainty of when the Daily Show correspondent persona took on a life of its own and became a character in and of itself. I'll leave it up but I'm doubtfulJamiet99uk wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 4:36 pmThe first appearance of that character was in 1997 so I don't think it can be.

Re: Twenty questions, round 348
This is correct! Well done.
My apologies for the confusion I caused about the date of first appearance. I felt pretty good, when the question was first asked, that the first appearance of the Colbert character was before 2000, but as DT noted, the nature of the character makes it harder to pin down exactly when his first appearance was. I had found one source that seemed to indicate a post-1999 first appearance of the character, so that is why I switched to "pass".DreamTrawler wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 4:45 pmYeah, you're right. And, of course, the Colbert Report won multiple Emmys, but the question is, did they go to Colbert for depicting the character?

Re: Twenty questions, round 348
Oh nice! Yeah, I was thinking the uncertainty might arise from that. I was a big fan of Colbert/The Daily Show growing up, probably the only talk show that I've watched regularly.
