Day 1 Flavor:
A makeshift gallows had been erected in the warehouse. A rope hung from a large beam, with a barrel below it. Half-steps, common in the meadery for the Dwarves to reach the upper shelves, led up to it. The workers had split into several groups, each with their own suspicions. The Foreman took charge, directing them to a vote, which he hopes his lackeys would help to sway.

When the votes were tallied, the shock on his face was clear. He was escorted up the steps, onto the barrel, and secured in his noose.

"You may have gotten me, but dontcha' rest easy yet. There's more to come."

JustAGuyNamedWill has died. He was the Mafia Foreman!

GM Randomness:
I didn't think of it til just now, but I think I may recant you guys with some random stories and stuff as entertainment.

First, the town and events of this game will be canonical to my D&D world. Durig-fjell, loosely a translation of dragon's fall, is a land that was colonized by dwarves and dragonborn seafarers, brewers, lumberjacks, etc. In my IRL campaign, the Monk is a disciple of a dragon who lives on the continent, though far removed from our story.

I was inspired basically by Balki telling me to use a Beekeeper role. This led to establishing the meadery after conferring with some technical details with the player who plays the Monk, who just happens to make mead in his spare time. Small world.

About 3.25 hours remain in the night. Until then - the floor is mine.

M88 End of Night 1:
Barrel Maker Grym Firebeard had not believed the Foreman could be corrupt. He spent the night in contemplation when his nightly barreling was done. He hoped he had chosen well. His journals were filled to the brim, and he hurried excitedly from the barreling room toward the mess hall.

Along the way, he felt the call of nature, and took a turn toward the stairs down to the lavatories. They were positioned so that they drained into the river downstream of the intake and the bees. When his business was done, he turned around, standing face to face with another worker - Olim Tinforged. He noticed his papers had fallen from his hand before he noticed the knife in his gut.

"Sorry about this, old man. But we just couldn't afford your work falling into the right hands."

Grym collapsed, clutching towards his papers - but the man was scopping them up. As he died, he clutched the bundle that remained - a fiction he called "As Written in the Correspondence of the Mafia."

BRAINBOMB has died. He was the Barrel Maker.

To start, I don't think Bona is scum; his behavior and comments seem too over the top on D1 for that.

That’s interesting. I’ve never played with bona before, but yeah, he feels like he’s playing… aggressively? I dunno if that’s the right word, but on vibes general tone he’s established a strong front. I feel such fearlessness is town leaning, but I’m not sure if a) bona is always like this, and/or b) it’s a facade/trick of scum.

Not fully caught up yet, I’ll drop some more thoughts later.

I'm new here and it's D1, so what I said isn't necessarily ironclad, but it would be a bold strategy for scum.

I live right by the ocean so we stay fairly temperate here. But am sad to say Maine does now get over 90 days in the summer when it never has before. Just got a couple heat pumps (mostly for heat....but the AC might be useful a couple weeks this summer).

Why do assume sweetandcool did not ignore the number selection and vote for who he wanted to vote for? I was not in M87, but based on the D1 and D2 voting, it seems sweetandcool might be motivated to vote for Balki. Or, sweetandcool and Balki could be mafia teammates and the apparently random vote could be a distancing ploy.

Honestly the answer is that I had it in my head that there were 16 players not 18. I then multiplied by 2 to vaguely disguise my intention to use Will as RNG. I chose Will because he was online and active in thread.

Given that there was no prechat, it's hard to believe scum sweetandcool somehow coordinated with scum Will to fabricate a vote on Balki.

Conclusion:

1. NAI sweetandcool did an RNG bit.
2. Scum sweetandcool wanted an interaction with Will either as buddying or pretend buddying.
3. Any alignment sweetandcool did not fabricate a vote on Balki because that is ludicrously implausible.

I can certify that at least two of those conclusions are correct.

I have a strong sense that there will be quite a few long wall posts suddenly appearing at the start of this phase, but the night phase quietness really is nice to somewhat write some spew to be posted right away - so here we go.

The first thing I want to look at is Will:
Will did a magnificent job winning as the last scum on a recent game by extensively bussing his team throughout the game. I like to think people are self-conscious of recent scum games and don't want to get caught with the same trick (WIFOM of course, but this is what I do when I roll scum and want to try to not sink my team), so I am going to operate under the assumption that Will was not bussing on D1 here. This assumption would lead me to conclude Bona is town and not someone I would kill on D2 or D3.

An interesting issue I find with Will here in his list faking:

The thing that stands out is saying Balki is town to BB after listing him as null. There are no posts indicating a change of opinion between the list or BB's list.

I really think Will, as scum, would slip and screw up his read/thoughts on his own scum team versus screwing up a town player read. This leads me to the conclusion that Balki is most likely a scum teammate of Wills.

The first thing I am excited to see at some point is how people analyze the D1 process:
We're going to see two thought processes here - that Will was bussed or defended by his scum team.

From my perspective, the oppotunistic bussers here are sweet, KotP, and myself (whoever I am town, but just listing as I acknowledge the circumstance and potential opinions of others). ghug's vote was late to ensure a kill and Bunny falls into the Will defenders (more on that shortly). Of the opportunistic, sweet feels the worst - but there is enough content during the day to show he actually morphed a read out of it. I think I'll avoid this group for D2 honestly.

The people who come off as defenders of Will are Food, Bunny, and Vecna. Food was outright towning him and I feel next to no scum vibes off him because of that. Town can be wrong and that's acceptable and normal. Bunny and Vecna come off more subvertive - their defense of Will was more tied to vote movement and off-wagoning people randomly.

I do not like Vecna's vote here:

Upon re-look, it felt like he was positioning the Bona counter-wagon to get more votes and possibly run up from will voters. I also didn't like his commentary about others he would kill - it felt like he was hunting for other flash wagons to get some steam and move votes off Will.

Bunny was somewhat similar as Vecna - his random movement to me created this:

What is crucial here is he suddenly made Bona and Damo as easily viable kills versus will only because I did not mention damo in my vote post (wtf about that one too btw...). So, TL;DR - D2 I want someone from Balki, Vecna, and Bunny. I currently town Bona, Sweet, and rdr (didn't mention him, but the will vote is the reasoning and he doesn't normally bus) and will not vote for any of these 3 outside of a cop claim.

Those 5 players are, in order, jamie (for sweet saying he was going to not post after dropping a vote early on), google, (apparently initially as a meme, but buttressed by the same post jamie calls out, so he's a sheeple), damo (in a weird pr hunting move), and kotip (as a placeholder, quickly ditched as sweet shows up again). jimmit ditches his vote, saying he needs to reconsider, and then our good friend bonatogether voted sweet for tweaking. i think this wagon can be ascribed to d1 meming and sweet just being weird. the individual votes are more interesting than the actual wagon - jimmy seems to be searching for a wagon, google seems to be a sheep, damo is damoing, and kotip is being loltown. hard to read anything into what this means for sweet without knowledge of their alignments.

the next major wagon is my so-called favorite person, myself. the first vote on me is from justascum, in response to my vote on sweet. he and sweet have this weird buddy-buddy dynamic that i'm sure sweet will have some answers for. we will see! anyhow.

I think it's better if we saw nothing more about it.

this sequence looks weird to me. food jumps onto it, says something wishy-washy and then votes me. jamie also agrees and then votes me. this core group of 3 will go back and forth but ends on me, with exception of food, who says that he 'doesn't love the bona wagon' at eod, and sheeps brain onto a flopped wagon. this wagon drifts off into 2 votes, but the momentum remained latent throughout the day and into eod.

thus concludes the pre-eod period. many other wagons got some momentum, but most peaked at 2 votes and can't really be read into except as there being no consensus.

i delineate the functional start of eod as the time when all wagons are at 2 votes, starting at T-0:59. At this point, the votes are 2 damo, 2 just, 2 sparta, 2 sweet, 2 bona, 2 unvote. with the next vote flip, a 2 vote balki wagon will appear. about half of all votes are made after this line, and a quarter of the posts are after this line.

the first major wagon that forms in eod is on damo. this wagon is formed of balki, sparta, and brian, and is mostly because he was not around. sparta's vote was incidentally the first vote, and one that he never changed. this wagon was kind of a zombie wagon, with brian afk, sparta talking a bit but not engaged, and balki trying to rally support for this, with no one really listening. i believe some people said this is just normal damo activities. none of these votes move, but none get added.

the next major wagon that forms is on will (scum). the first vote on will is from sweet, which i personally felt was a scummy vote, and then it goes me - rdr - kotip. rdr's vote is justified by that he would only vote balki or will, and balki has more potential use later. kotip says that will's wagon has more 'reasons', and that he is fine to tiebreak either way (between will or damo at this time). pausing here at T-0:09.

sparta's wagon becomes big at this time, driven primarily by brain, with food and bozo joining. brain also says that vecna is clearly scum, but doesn't vote for him. bozo says that he doesn't like the damo wagon, and follows brain (he follows brain a lot this eod). food does NOT give a reason for why he votes sparta, except the second time he says that 'yeah this is a good enough read and i don't like the other wagons', which was the same reason presented earlier? why did he only agree with this so late if had already voted for sparta?? this wagon peaks here.

bona wagon redux shows up. yippee! it gets to 4 at T-0:10, with will (who never left my wagon), jamie, who doesn't state a reason immediately, but had a long-standing view that i was scum, vecna, who says he wants 'more juicy wagon options', and ghug, who says he wants a tie. In the space of two minutes, ending at T-0:09, this wagon goes from a single vote to tying the leading wagon. This feels abysmal, especially knowing that will is scum. of these votes, i have to say that jamie is the one i feel most consistently is trying to push me because of my will takes, so i feel that he is the most scummy of these three. vecna and ghug are also ?? so who knows, but i severely doubt that there are no scum among those 3.

consolidation: this period sees no new wagons, but just shifting around, mostly onto either me or will
bunny votes will to save me before temporarily rando voting worcej, ghug votes damo for some reason, and worcej votes will as a choice over my wagon. food votes for me explicitly to save will (cringe!), and quickly returns to sparta. ghug votes will at the last second to become the only will voter who ever voted me. weird?


conclusions:
food is pretty clearly scum trying to save will imo. at eod, he always move to save just, bouncing between multiple wagons to the one closest behind will.
jamie also looks bad.
worcej and bongo look good for putting will over the top

I agreed with Bunny about foodcoats hard defending Will in the moment being scummy/TMIish, but given Will's flip I think that exchange looks both of them look pretty townie.

I was roleblocked. Chaqa has confirmed that I'd get this message from being jailed or Mafia RBed, which means we know at a minimum that Mafia didn't RB their kill and we should probably have another RB claim.

I am about halfway through re-reading Day 1 with the JustWill flip in mind. My two main takeaways up to here (start of page 20) are that Jamiet is Town and Bona is Town. JustWIll gave Jamiet a very early pass in a way that I think scum tend to give to Town, and not to their partners:

Ok Jamie is town this sounds like something he said a few games ago

Will later reinforced that read and just kind of hung with Jamiet as his top townread based on basically nothing. I think scum feel more free to do something like that on a slot that they know to be Town.

Some random thoughts

Sweet is NAI, I think he’s doing this gambit out of pure spite for always being D1ed

Foodcoats gives off a similar vibe from last game, towny as such but I could be wrong

Vecna seems to ‘catch up’ even tho it’s like 5 pages into the game. Strange

Jamie is my top tr atm

Regarding Bona, Will just seems to attack the slot consistently enough and in the sort of way that it makes less sense as his partner.

Now i dont have any proof for this but Bona seems to be doing his ‘too cool for mafia routine’. I dont know who said it or when (maybe it was during his MU champs game or maybe brain) but people have said this is a telltale sign of scum bona.

Now its just a theory but i think im onto something

Plus he hasn’t significantly contributed even tho his post count is relatively high, so theres another thing

My best read is that Jamiet and Bona are likely Town.
