Re: Twenty Qs - #116
I am going to assume this comes down to broad definitions of "entertainer".
Tread carefully, fellows.
Tread carefully, fellows.
Potato, potato; potato.
Re: Twenty Qs - #116
I would not normally consider a writer to qualify for a broad definition of "entertainer," but I'm thinking someone like Oscar Wilde (who is Irish, so not the answer here) might be correct.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 1:24 pmI am going to assume this comes down to broad definitions of "entertainer".

6 questions left, but I think halving the potential time span is a good idea.
Born before 1910?

Uh, I'm pretty sure Oscar Wilde was male.Foxcastle wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 2:07 pmI would not normally consider a writer to qualify for a broad definition of "entertainer," but I'm thinking someone like Oscar Wilde (who is Irish, so not the answer here) might be correct.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 1:24 pmI am going to assume this comes down to broad definitions of "entertainer".

Re: Twenty Qs - #116
Depends what type of writer. An academic/philosopher/political pamphleer would probably not qualify as an entertainer but a poet/playwright/novelist/comedic journalist would.Foxcastle wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 2:07 pmI would not normally consider a writer to qualify for a broad definition of "entertainer," but I'm thinking someone like Oscar Wilde (who is Irish, so not the answer here) might be correct.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 1:24 pmI am going to assume this comes down to broad definitions of "entertainer".

Yes, born before 1910.
Re: Twenty Qs - #116
Yes, I am just trying to generate ideas for why this person might have been known, since that's the area we have the vaguest information on at the moment. That he was Irish just came to mind before the more obvious gender constraint.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 5:55 pmUh, I'm pretty sure Oscar Wilde was male.Foxcastle wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 2:07 pmI would not normally consider a writer to qualify for a broad definition of "entertainer," but I'm thinking someone like Oscar Wilde (who is Irish, so not the answer here) might be correct.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 1:24 pmI am going to assume this comes down to broad definitions of "entertainer".
