Elabaration on Dr answer - consider Plato or Archimdes, they did not have doctorates because of the era in which they lived but in the modern era you would expect them to have.

Re: Twenty Questions - Game 61
I am confused by the answers to Q10 and Q17: not an artist, yet a poet.

Re: Twenty Questions - Game 61
Confusion around the artistic and scientific elements makes me think of an ancient figure. I've used up my free guess, so this one will be counted as the 19th question:
Avicenna?
Avicenna?
Re: Twenty Questions - Game 61
I bet that Avicenna is correct.

Re: Twenty Questions - Game 61
Free Guess: Omar Khayyam - a Persian poet, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher, but not really an "artist".
Re: Twenty Questions - Game 61
Correct. Well done.
Unlucky Szpoti, right era, right geography and right sort of person.
Re: Twenty Questions - Game 61

I had given up a while ago, but usually I vaguely remember hearing the name. This one, no clue.
Re: Twenty Questions - Game 61
Perhaps your more familiar with him under his real name - Ghiyath al Din Abu al Fath Umar ibn Ibrahim Nisaburi?
Re: Twenty Questions - Game 61
He also considered himself to be a student of Avicenna (whom I had actually never heard of). I'll start game 62 later this morning.
Re: Twenty Questions - Game 61
But why would he necessarily have had a doctorate in the modern era?

Re: Twenty Questions - Game 61
I'm guessing because of (at least) some of the math he did, which was revolutionary for its time?
