National Cup (not actually a national cup) Peanut Gallery

Hopefully we players of the game will also use this thread to post our thoughts after the dust settles and the game is over.

Also- there isn't a sub-forum of EOG/Spectating threads? If there is a better one Mods can move it, but off-topic clearly isn't right for this.

No, there isn't. I asked about it a few years ago. Would be nice - actually trying to take some decent notes this game.

I think provided it is just tactics and not the identity of the players discussed. There should be no issue.
If there is, I am sure a mod will let us know soon enough.

Coward! In a real World Cup game, a sandgoose outs you early on and you have have to struggle on anyway in bitter determination for more than 100 years. You think I'm joking? That really happened.

Yes. We have all seen Captain meme's video.
You still haven't explained why you declined to play?
Surely you were not scared?

SoS isn't Diplomacy since draws aren't shared equally. I don't play many games of Diplomacy these days anyway.

Also, it's probably more fun to troll the troll than to play with the troll.

Sos is the only true form of diplomacy. Draw Size encourages care bears, Sos encourage competition.

WTA encourages players to play like cowards. Maybe care bears too? But at least it follows the rules. My preference is PPSC.

PPSC is no longer on this site.

In the event of a win, it apportioned points to participants based on how many SCs they held at the end of the game. The winner, assuming they got 18SCs gained half the pot, the others gained a proportion directly proportionate to how many SCs they held.

(In the event of a draw, everyone gets an equal share in PPSC, as I recall).

Well, not quite. Winners get more than half. The winner gets 9/17 of the pot, about 53%, even if they end the game with more than 18 supply centers (anything less than 34). The reminder is divided proportionally, correct. Draws are indeed shared equally. PPSC is still available on our sister site, vDiplomacy.

It does sound interesting but as someone that solo's, a lot lol, I don't want to share my winnings with the peasants

Christ on a cracker, are we still arguing about point scoring? Was there a PPSC sighting again?

*sigh* Okay, let's fire up the hoist and get that dead horse up to piñata height.

We SHOULD be peanut gallery the game. Look at those opening moves! Wow, so cool and risque! So much to talk about there...

It's interesting how.. The... Hmmm...

Anyway, we should have WTA but draws are PPSC, why isn't that the default.

What were you expecting?
Good players in a high stakes game. There is a reason the so called boring openings are played so often. They are both safe and effective.
I suspect things will heat up soon enough.

Well, things are finally heating up, some very interesting moves on display. Some great openings and some very unlucky players. What will be the first nation eliminated?

There is no luck in Diplomacy, lad.

But nah, all the players are still in a good place.

I know you probably felt really cool saying this but I would disagree.
Someone in this game is France, someone in this game is Italy.
Would that not be classed as luck?
Considering one cannot chose his nation.

Diplomacy moves sometimes involve guessing. Therefore luck is involved.

Is this conversation somehow less hackneyed than scoring methods?
