Best players you have played with:

Hey guys,

Was just going to put up a fun post inquiring as to who you guys feel as though were the best players you have played with on the site? The players who stood out to you the most.

For me, Kearns892, McFly and Fortress Door all stood out to me as being quite good in the eleven real games I have played on the site. My father felt as though Hellenic Riot was especially good, but I have not played with him before.

But yeah, still quite extreme to call it a draw so early.

That was the best game I've been in--everyone played great and was really fun to talk to. Doug our other game together was, if I recall, an epic disaster, but I remember you playing well there too.

I've played one other game with Josef IV and he was an absolute beast. Sneaking into that draw was one of my proudest diplomacy moments.

Yes, it was an epic disaster of a game all around - I was doing fine, but IIRC you had a bit of a tactical advantage on me even though we were working together for the most part. Thanks for the complement, though!

The first player who blew me away by being several levels above anyone else I'd come across was anlari. The rest of us danced to their tune all game, and even when it became obvious what they were doing it seemed somehow impossible to stop them. It completely opened my eyes to what was possible.


gantz and The Czech stand out as properly great players of the game I've encountered over the years, but the best of all time award has to go to VillageIdiot. Most players have some kind of weakness somewhere in their game... If VillageIdiot does I've never found it. Exceptional in every area

Alright. First there's jmo, who really helped to teach me to see the unseen on the board, and a good friend. Then there's bo_sox48, an amazing player and even better human being. I'd be remiss to forget about Yoyoyozo, whose vibe with chaos warms my heart! I've been fabulously inebriated with all 3 of these guys, and if they were around I'd drop what I'm doing to say hello. I miss these quality humans. We'll always have DC and that Russian suit jacket.

Then there's Yonni who I deeply respect. TomBombadil is another whose excellence I bow before. Of course Chaqa, when the walls fell. A fun opponent was always found in goldfinger0303.

The shining light has got to be kgray, a cunning, sharp, and masterful opponent who just rules. Not a day goes by where I don't fondly recall our perfect game.

Most recently, gotta call out DougJoe, Theodoric, IRidePigs, Josef IV. Damn, I could do this all day. There's been just so many people that I've played with that I'd call the best. Seriously, if I missed you (and I'm sure I did), know that I love you.

Limiting just to who I played with on webDip, then Dejan0707, MadMarx, VillageIdiot, durga, djbent, A_Tin_Can, and peterwiggin come to mind from back in ye olden days. Some of them were more fun to play with than others though

And if we're throwing gunboat in too, then Nikola Maric Eto.

Shoutout to [email protected], who I played a decent amount of games with and had something of a rivalry with. Or at least, despite our best attempts even on anonymous games, we almost always ended up trying to kill each other. Idk if the "No Tears" series of games is still going but they were very fun.

Got to say--I've never seen anyone use press better than Yigg. He's completely delightful, but also so good at understanding everyone else's position and intervening in the correct ways to help himself. Our first GR challenge I allied with Yigg from the beginning, and every time I started wondering if I should switch things up he would intuit my worry from the positioning or my press and totally convince me that I could trust him and that my other choices wouldn't work.

Post-game, when we were doing our post-mortem, I think me, Russia, and Germany all talked about how we saw Yigg (England) as our primary ally.

VillageIdiot seems to be a stupendous player.

The reason I don’t play here anymore is largely because A.) The game takes up alot of mental energy and time and I only have so much, but B.) I have really only played 11 games and have a record of 4 wins, 4 Draws, 2 Survivals and 1 very unfortunate defeat. However, the first day I joined the site I accidentally joined a live gunboat game which I didn’t play, not realizing that it was gunboat and no press and not 1 day+ move phases which I didn’t play and was consequently “defeated” in prior to joining games, which sits on my record nonetheless. Mods never were willing to expunge it as of yet and it came to bother me seeing my record like that because of it, but it is what it is. I played one other game (press obviously, one day phases) on another site which I won, but it was a horrible game in which player after player dropped out and/or NMR’d. Frustrating. Didn’t want to play another game there again after that.

I don’t recall that much of what he said but he mentioned you HR as a good player. He mentioned SocratesDissatisfied as being pretty solid at the time, as well, I recall.
