Russia’s ultimate victory
You can have your whole map in one colour against the bots.
(Except for Crete and Sardina but I guess that’s another discussion)
Not sure I’d make the effort again though….

Re: Russia’s ultimate victory
Well done. The way you deleted the enemy units one by one is just remarkable.
Re: Russia’s ultimate victory
Surprisingly hard to do without winning before completion.
And then getting into the right position for the final rout.
It did of course help that the bots are reasonably predictable. Though one surprise move did delay the finale a year.

Re: Russia’s ultimate victory
Did you intend to do this at the start or got the idea midway through this game?
Re: Russia’s ultimate victory
I was intrigued to see if it was possible after a previous game where I started and failed. In that game I had managed to capture the enemies home centres so they couldn’t rebuild. Here I had to rely on keeping on their homes centres which made for a tricky finish.
There were 3 challenges
1. Get to 17 centres
2. Kill of the remainder of the units except for those on home centres without accidentally getting to 18 centres.
3. Get into position to take all 17 of the remaining centres in one year with 17 units.
In stage 2 you have to ensure retreat routes are open to avoid accidentally winning early
In stage 3 I think I was somewhat lucky with the arrangement of remaining centres and the mix of units I had. I was unable to find a way to prevent the bots retreating in the last couple of turns and changing the colours of their zones. But, rather obligingly, they disbanded themselves rather than making final retreats to zones without supply centres.

Re: Russia’s ultimate victory
I could be wrong but I thought there were no retreats once someone hits 18.
Re: Russia’s ultimate victory
That wouldn’t explain why Venice didn’t retreat in Spring 1941 though. Last year of the game.
Re: Russia’s ultimate victory
I hadn’t spotted that

Yeah. It does help that the bots seem to repeat moves with a high degree of predictability. Though not 100%, and they caught me out a couple of times.
Re: Russia’s ultimate victory
Huh, I didn't catch that. I think that's just a bot thing: there were retreats phase in the spring but the bot chose to disband. What I meant is that once you hit 18 or more in the autumn, the game ends without going to the retreats phase.
Re: Russia’s ultimate victory
Pretty cool…
Shame you can’t fill in the colour on some of the islands and the land associated with Beaufort Sea though.
There’s the same issue with Crete and Sardinian on the classic map.
Presumably it would be an easy fix.
