Thanks, excellent as always! As a newish player, strategy is certainly the element of the game I've found hardest to develop, because so much is experience.
To your advice of "Gain Personal Experience" and "Gain Vicarious Experience", I'd add "Gain Gunboat Experience". Some of the strategic parts of Diplomacy come up in gunboat games just as they do in press games, and you can get a lot of experience of those in many fewer hours by playing gunboat.

That was my advice in Part 2 “Tactics,” so I decided to suggest something siffernt in part 3

Although...I did suggest reading my gunboat guides as a starting point
