Web Diplomacy in school?

#1 Post by ForgeSmith » Mon Sep 24, 2018 11:55 pm

I have talked with one of my teachers about the prospect of playing web diplomacy in school, something he thought would tie into the lessons well. Although this seems great, we have noticed that current turn time is applicable to the schedule, especially with weekends. Does anyone have any advice on how we could accomplish this?

You could try wait for orders. That would probably work best in that setting. You'd have to have a mod set it up.

Just wanted to say that that's so cool. Let us know how it goes!

There's a couple of good options to facilitate this. Dargorygel will handle it :-)

Yeah, PlayDip has a Schools option.

I’m jealous though. Every single Diplomacy site is blocked at my school, even Dip Pouch. Diplomacy’s not a video game! It’s educational! :(

We have a nice setup for teachers. We make them the Game Director which offers them a variety of tools over the game. Such as being able to pause for weekends, swap countries around, see who's who if the game is anonymous, post in the global chat, and make other adjustments that tend to be needed when organizing students. If you email the moderators at [email protected] they can set you up with these options.

Tell me how you convinced your school to unblock it. :(

We played ftf first and motly... but I also am an administrator at my school... and answering an earlier question, I have used dip to demonstrate the treaty-connections preceding WWI... the necessity of cooperation internationally... and logic. :-) AND it's fun.

I have just made sure that my school does not block it in the first place. If it does not become a problem, then why would they block it?

Our web filter has categories (advertisements, games, malware, etc) and all the Dip sites fall under gaming. ALL of them. Even though this game is educational.

Not that it stops me lol. Phones are allowed, so my data usage just goes way up now. :D

Oddly enough, for me, vdip is banned. playdip is banned, but I don't use it anyway. WebDip is the only one that has slipped through the cracks. I have been using WebDip since April and no one has made a fuss about it. I have even gotten some recruits to this game.

I was very excited when I started my new job and webdip got through the firewall. Benefits of working for a smaller company!
