I have been pondering on possible variations of webdip that would make the games a little weirder and present new challenges. It would be awesome (in my opinion) if there was a zany variant of the standard map; where random generation occurred. I am thinking stuff like old school simcity encounters; the game will be progressing as normal and suddenly godzilla spawns in the sea, could just as easily be a UFO or some other campy sci-fi cliche lol. The new threat could be controlled by simple random generated AI. This new threat could be programmed to take areas and disband units the moment it moves into an area. Support hold will not stop it :D To eliminate the threat it would require 2 or more units support moving to displace it. This would bring a whole new dimension to the game and also force players to adapt and work together even if they were once sworn enemies.
It has been a slow day at work lol

While this may be an interesting idea, we're short on developers as it is and this would require loads of coding. You'll have a better chance on the vDiplomacy forum

You might enjoy Pirates! over on vDiplomacy. It doesn't have a wide variety of random events but it does have one fairly impactful one - a hurricane will spawn in a random location after each build phase and travel in a random path over the course of the year, destroying units and neutralising SCs.
