If you go to your profile settings for the new forum, you can change your online status to be hidden. Also note that this ONLY shows the online status for people who are currently looking at the new forum only. It does not show people online on a game page or anywhere else on the site, so it'd be very difficult if not impossible to break anonymity this way.

I just noted I was online the forum said 5 on and 2 hidden and 3 players were on a game I was playing anon..
