Re: Testing Polls More
I’ve not even played all of these, so I guess I’ll vote for the ones that I have played.

Re: Testing Polls More
Totally agree, it becomes an auto 3v2 pretty early on or a 1v1 on one side and a 2v1 on the other side. Ten one of those three ends up solo'ing pretty easily, or they draw it outDreamTrawler wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 6:24 pmAncient Med is so balanced that it becomes a bit boring, IMO

Re: Testing Polls More
I like Modern Diplomacy II the best feels pretty balanced for all sides and after the first turn every power becomes relatively big so everyone is almost fighting a 2 front war which is fun, and fortunes can change if you do your diplomacy right; solos arent easy to make happen so it feels like actual effort to make it happen, not just an accident of history

Crazy disrespect to World Diplomacy. The craziness and fun is unmatched if you enjoy the actual diplomatic part of Diplomacy.

Re: Testing Polls More
Did someone really vote for Ancient Med?
FWIW, my opinion:

FWIW, my opinion:
- Favourites:
- Modern, perhaps even slightly better than Classic
- Fall of American Empire, unbalanced but real fun
- Can play sometimes:
- 1v1, be it FvA or GvI (but not the insane BackStabbr version with the units of the other countries in place)
- Tried now and then, but no, thanks:
- Ancient Med, it's not even Diplomacy
- World IX, nice, but what a mess
- Cold War, I'm not smart enough to understand that map
- Never ever:
- Chaos

Re: Testing Polls More
Ancient Med, in my opinion, is okay. When I was a beginner, I accidentally soloed on my first try (actually, I reached one center before solo and could've easily gotten the last center, and then agreed to draw because I didn't feel like betraying my allies). I think gimix was there (this was on my old account, which I deleted).
I think Chaos has a lot of potential, but so far, I've never played a match where I reached three centers, and it isn't easy to get a game going.
I've never tried the 1v1 variants. I tried once with the bots, but I didn't like them. The same is true for Cold War. I played one match when it first came out, but I found it pretty confusing.
FotAE is one of my favourites (I'm biased as a North American). However, the early game is kind of boring. There are not that many options.
Modern Diplomacy II is really fun. I always enjoyed playing it. The map is so big, and there's so much you can do. The same is true for World Diplomacy.

Re: Testing Polls More
Wow, I remember an Ancient Med game where I misordered at the very end of the game and my long-term ally refused to solo and waited for me to get to 17. Was it you? I believe a large majority of people here would say you should have soloed instead, but I appreciated that. So thank you for that game

Re: Testing Polls More
I actually quite like Fall of the American Empire's setup, and I think it's a decent map when you have 10 players, but I think it's woefully unbalanced and has a ridiculous amount of sea tiles. If webDiplomacy allowed you to pick nations I think it'd be a really stellar variant as then you'd be able to put weaker players on weaker powers—it matters much more in FotAE than it does in Classic, in my experience

As you probably know, webDip has a strict policy that doesn't allow you to have more than one account ("No Multi-Accounting"). Your old account couldn't have been completely deleted, so you should ask the mods for help on regaining access to your old account, or else declare your new account's relationship with the old account using the new "user relationships" feature on your profile page.sin(2x) = 2sin(x)cos(x) wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 12:46 pmthis was on my old account, which I deleted

Surprised Fall of the American Empire is so low, I feel like I often see games for it on the New Games tab

Because no one is joining them.DreamTrawler wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 5:54 pmSurprised Fall of the American Empire is so low, I feel like I often see games for it on the New Games tab
