I was attempting to poke fun that the most infamous person is so infamous that none would ever dare utter their name... but now I kinda want the tea (if and only if appropriate and allowed ofc)Octavious wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 11:31 pmDraugnar? Re: Most Infamous WebDip user
You'd have to have a dip into the old forum to get a feel of him. Towards the end relations with the site had degraded to the extent that he reported threatened to DDOS the site and mentioning his name was forbidden.
I quite liked him

He's a guy who used to play here, got banned, then would get his feelings hurt if anyone used his name.kingofthepirates wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 11:37 pmI was attempting to poke fun that the most infamous person is so infamous that none would ever dare utter their name... but now I kinda want the tea (if and only if appropriate and allowed ofc)Octavious wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 11:31 pmDraugnar? Re: Most Infamous WebDip user
Ginge is the reason behind the longstanding announcement post about cheating accusations https://webdiplomacy.net/contrib/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&p=397234#p397234
Ginge had an outrageously offensive press playstyle. He would bully, badger, and insult players into taking certain actions. If he had a good position, he would try to make the global chat so toxic that the game would end in his favour. I saw firsthand how this approach could work surprisingly well and thought it was interesting. Unfortunately, he would occasionally cross the line and straight up threaten violence, make extraordinarily obscene sexual comments, etc., which is out-of-bounds of WebDip.
Ginge was also extraordinarily conspiratorial. He meticulously tracked who his opponents played with and would regularly accuse opponents of collusion. This happened in-game a few times, which was game warping and against the rules. Then it migrated to the forum, which was a form of meta-gaming and quite annoying.
He was fed up with supposed cheating and so created a high level game to test his mettle. He ended up accusing the players of that game of colluding against him and abandoned it once it was apparent he was losing.
After quitting the contest he flooded the forum with rude and accusatory posts, was banned, returned under a new name (Redheadkid) to make yet more accusations, and was banned again.
It would be easy to mistake Ginge for a troll, but from a few in-game conversations I really got the sense that he was a little bit mentally unwell, had a paranoid outlook on life in general, and had some personal issues that made losing an online game like WebDip especially painful.

Re: Most Infamous WebDip user
I just remember I was playing a World Diplomacy Game with him, and I was a measly one SC America who was destined to be eliminated. I sent my fleet across the pacific, hoping to turn the Philippines red-orange so I could remain on the map forever. Then, India decided I could be useful, had me take Thailand. I became an Indian puppet-state for a few years, and then we decided I should said around the world. I made this announcement publicly on the main chat that while the other mega empires were fighting, and they all seemed to go for it. I was given permission to sail up through the Red Sea, across the Med, and land in NYC, before being eventually eliminated. It was a fun thing for everyone to root for, because (as said before) Ginge had at this point made global chat so toxic it was not really fun anymore. Ginge, as Near East and controller of Europe, had me pass up to Egypt, into the Med, but then promptly blocked me from leaving, toyed with me for a year, took Egypt back, and eliminated me from the map. Needless to say neither me nor the rest of the world was very enthused. I don't remember who ended up winning, but it was the same time I had also been brutally stabbed by Ginge in a separate game that we also were playing together. It was then I resolved never to work with him again.

I forgot about Ginge86, ha ha. His last game was quite something:

Wasn't Draugnar the originator of this very violent quote?

It became the the most infamous meme on webDip. It would be amazing if somebody could dig up the original thread.

Other candidates for most infamous webDip user include krellin <shudder> and Sandgoose/SandgooseXXI.
Draugnar and Ginge86 may have been something of tragic figures, but we've had our fair share of extremely unpleasant users over the years.
