Kind of a "technical" question

Hello everyone,
I joined webDiplomacy yesterday and started a classic game with an invitation code for my friends. However, we can't choose the nations ourselves, but are assigned randomly. Is this generally the case with webDiplomacy or am I missing something? Is it possible to manually assign nations to the players in a game?

They are assigned randomly, yes, you can't choose.
